This is an update to my previous posting.
I just received a copy of a page from the book
"History of Wisconsin, Buffalo County, 1888"
that I had requested from the interlibrary loan
and It shows John George Auer settled in Buffalo
County, WI in 1867 and still lived there in
1888. His occupation is listed as "Carpenter
Furniture". Resided in the town of Alma, WI
There is also listed a Jacob Auer who settled
the same year as John and in 1888 was in Durand
WI which is also in Buffalo County, WI. Shows
occupation as "Saloon". Does anyone know of
either of these two?

My grandfather, Anton Auer, was born in Switzerland 1850. He came to the U.S.in 1874 with his brother Carl. According to the family story, Anton was the youngest of 13 children, mostly boys. The brothers joined their older brother, Jacob, who lived in Dubbuque, Iowa. Jacob's wife was named Kate, and they had three children that I knew as a child. They were Jacob, Leopold, and Rose. Anton and Carl left Dubuque. Anton came to St. Paul, Minnesota, and Carl went his own way and was never heards from again. In 1884 Anton married Mary Ann Schlachter. They raised six children - Louise, Helen, Amelia, Alfred Joseph(my father), Walter Thomas, and Ruth. Anton died in 1925 and is buried in St. Paul. I do not know which Canton this family came from, but suspect it would have been one from the eastern part of the country. Anton spoke five or six languages and was of the Catholic faith. At this time I do not see a family connection to eithe of you, but it's interesting to find other Auers in Buffalo, Wi. and Albany, Mn.
