I am looking for a graveyard where my ancestors were buried, supposedly named for the Curtice family. It is located somewhere in Ohio (Berian? Beria?). Can anyone help?

There is a Curtice cemetery in Bitely, MI 60 miles NE of Muskegon. The cemetery was named after Alphonso M. Curtice. If you give me names of your reletives I'll know if this is the same family.
(my mom was a curtice.)

Hi Michelle-

My great grandmother was Vivian May Curtice, dau. of Mary Emily (May) McLenithan and Hiram Eugene Curtice, b. Nov. 8, 1876 in LaGrange, OH. Hiram had two sisters, Emma and Loretta.

Hiram's parents were Joel Nathaniel Curtice, b. 1834, and Susan Trimby. Joel had 9 siblings; Clarrisa, Harlow, Joshua, Emma, Laurinda, David, William, Rueben, and Hiram.

Joel's parents were Joel Curtis, b. 1804, and Emma Freeman. This Joel's had eleven siblings; Philena, Worthy, Amos, Hosea, Reuben, Haelow, Elonzo, David, Susanna, Solomon, and Catherine.

Joel's parents were Hosea Curtice, b. 1774, and Catherine Moore. Hosea had fourteen siblings; Anne, Susanna, Sarah, Silence, Abilene, Vertudino, Sarah, Lucy, Polly, Rachel, Amos, Phebe, Patience, and Mary.

Hosea's father was also named Hosea, b. 1739, m. Susanna Kellogg. This Hosea's siblings were; Mary, Samuel, Joel, Abigail, Rachel, and Reuben.

This Hosea's father was also a Hosea, b. 1716/18, m. Mary Gilbert. He had 10 siblings; Mary, Elizabeth, Abigail, Samuel, Hannah, Sarah, Joel, Dinah, Naniard, and Caleb.

Hosea's father was Samuel, b. 1681, m. Mary Parker. His siblings were Elizabeth, Joshua, Caleb, Sarah, Hannah, and Richard.

Samuel's father was Caleb, b. 1646, m. Elizabeth Rider. His siblings were; Sarah, Samuel, Richard, Hannah, John, John, and Mary.

Caleb's father was Richard Curtice, b. unknown, m. Sarah Carwithey. His siblings are unknown.

His father was Richard Curtice, Master Mariner, who came to America from England. I know nothing else about him.

Whew! Let me know if anything looks familiar.

Interesting. Possibly the same family. Actually, I only have my history back to Worthy W. Curtice, b. 1798 in NY. Perhaps this is the brother of your Joel Curtice, b 1804. Do you have the birthdates/places of Joel's siblings?

This would be so helpful, if so.

The Curtice cemetery in MI would have a different offshoot of your family if we are related.

Joel Sr's brother Worthy is listed in the chart I have as born in 1798, died in 1868. There is no further info on him. However, Joel himself was born in NY.

Here is all the info I have on the rest of this group of siblings.

Philena- 1796-1871
Amos- 1800-1867, m. Roxa ALLEN
Hosea- 1802-1843, m. Charlotte ?
Reuben- 1806-1886, m. Malinda ?
Harlow- 1808-1809
Elonzo- 1810-1897, m. Fidelia BISHOP
David- 1812-1897, m. Malissa ALLEN
Susanna- 1814-1877, m. Alonzo MASON
Solomon- 1816-1896, m. Mary M. ?
Catherine- 1818-1889, m. Allen (probably a last name).

For many years there was a Curtice- Allen family reunion held in Lagrange, Ohio- as far back for certain as 1905, but I think I have a panoramic family photo taken at one circa 1885 or so packed away in storage. It's about six inches high and three feet long, and has broken in several places.

Yes, most likely the same Worthy Curtice. I have the same birth/death dates. If you want the forward information on Worthy's line let me know.

At the 1850 census, Worthy's wife and children lived in Hillsdale, MI and then the children later moved to Newaygo Co, MI (where the Curtice cemetery is) and in turn had their families.

Did you ever figure out where the Curtice cemetery is in Ohio?

I'll probably be in touch because I'll be very interested in your knowledge of the ancestors that go as far back as Richard Sr., Master Mariner from England.
That's so interesting.

My grandfather always said that he originated from England, but I'm quite sure he didn't know the details himself.

Wow- it's been a while since I posted that message. I had to go back and review it!

The photo is currently in storage at my dad's house in one of many unmarked boxes. I will look for it the next time I go visit him. The only names of folks in the photo that I know are family members I recognize from other family photos- the majority of the faces are unknown to me.

Are you a Curtice? How are you related?

Rachel
