I have travelled to Co. Galway 2 times in two years. I am soon to be married to John M. Kirwan, born 11-3-1969. John's family farm home is at the crossroads of Horseleap, Tuam, County Galway Ireland. His youngest brother Alan runs the farm with the father, Paul Kirwan. We would be very interested in helping anyone with recent history, and getting info on the past.

Amy, Where else in Ireland are Kirwan's found? I thought almost all came from Co.Galway. I was there two years ago and stayed at Castle Hackett. It was great. There is also a catle ruins just north of there on the way to Tuam. I had thought that was where most Kirwan/Kirwins originated. I am searching for a James Kirwin that married Louise Hearing in the early 1800's. There son's name was Thomas and he moved to Michigan via New York and Canada.

Hi Amy,
Thanks for your offer to help. I am just beginning to research a little into family history. I know that my father's grandfather, my great grandfather John Kirwan was at one time the mayor of Galway, but that's all I have. Would you have any information or leads from that little bit of information?

Thanks again!

Lisa

Can't help but reply as my cousins are Allan and John Kirwan, sons of Edward Emment Kirwan, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.,USA. My wife and I visited Tuam and the village of Belclare in 1989. The oldest Kirwan relative I know was John Kirwan,1770-1865, a farmer in Co. Kilkenny. His son, my great grandfather, Edward E. Kirwan was born August 4, 1831 and emmigrated to the US ending up in Louisville, Kentucky. Is there any connection between these to farming families?

I tried toreach you atamyksaas@aol.coma few days ago.
I hope to hear from you. My Kerwin family is from the same area and some of my cousins have met Paul Kirwan years ago. I had a friend make an inquirey about Horseleap and he had a friend who knew Paul and went to visit him on my behalf .Paul sent his telephone # with him for me but I haven't been to Ireland since . Dangan is listed as my grandparents place of birth and Iam curious as to where that area is in relation to Horseleap and Bearnaderg ? I am quite thrilled to have found your message. Best wishes Paul

??/ Amy Kathleen (Saas) Kirwin was going to Horseleap (Cross or Crossing), six or more miles southeast of Tuam on the Roscommon road -- Gardenfield is about four klicks north of Tuam ? not far today, but in 19th century Ireland ? Our family (see my cousin Paul Rayne's message on the board) is from Dangan, of which there are at least three around Horseleap today -- our grandmother was a Hanly ( or Hanley or Handley) -- mebbe, mebbe not
