Surnames: STAKEN, STAKEM, FARREL, FARRELL, NUGENT
from FHL 0926188, Catholic records of parish of Borris-in-Ossory, Queens County (now Co. Laois), Ireland:

baptized 17th May 1840, Martin, child of Martin Farrel and Mary Staken, sponsors: Barnaby Nugent and Ellen Nugent, parents' residence: RaheenPhilan [RaheenPhelan]

I am tracing FARRELLs from the along the Tipperary-Laois border, but do not know if this particular family is in any way connected to mine and have no further information about them. A James STAKEN and a Thomas FARRELL were in the civil parish of Rathdowney (same general area) for the Tithe Applotments.

Jim, I happen to have extracted the following baptisms a while back from FHL 0926188 [this is a film of the Catholic parish register for Borris-in-Ossory]:

The only Michael Delaney baptized in the time period you specified is this one:

6 June 1840 Michl; of John Delany & Mary Murphy; sp. Tim Phelan & Mary Delany; Killcoke

Another child of the same couple:

17 June 1845 Ths [Thomas - GWB]; of Jno Delany & Mary Murphy; sp. Dan Delany & Sally Murphy; Kilcoak

Note by GWB: that is the townland of Kilcoke, civil parish of Rathdowney, PLU of Donaghmore.

Another Michael, but outside the time period you specified:

8? [9?] Aug 1846 Michl; of Michl Delany & Catherine Delany; sp. John Delany & Mary Kenedy; Garran

That's the townland of Garranmaconly, civil parish either Rathdowney or Skirk (the townland is split across the boundary) and PLU of Donaghmore.
