Hi: I have been researching my family Martins from Antrim Co,
Ireland. My fathers Mother was a Martin and Her upline Grandfather was John Martin whose son was Samuel Martin.
A Rev. John Martin took a group around 20 Dec 1772 to Charleston sailing from Larne on the Lord Dunluce. People with the Minister (Presbyterian, I think ) were from Armagh,
Ballymoney, Ballymena, Kellswater, and Vow near Belfast
around Antrim and West Central Antrim. Larne would be the
closest port for people in these areas to sail. Today the
modern Airport is just South of this in Antrim Co. I have heard
from my Father that We are from Scotland by way of Rathin
Island where the earliest Church was placed. I believe our
family came from around Edinburgh. I am not sure however
due to so many family legends. I would like to share info with
you. Please E-Mail me at jeannekersh@hotmail.com
Samuel Martin lived from 3-9-1744/45 to 3-9-1850 and
one of his wives was Elizabeth Thresher John Martin
Lived from 1730 til at least late 1770's I believe died
Either in SC or Around Sweetwater, GA close to
Lawrenceville, GA today. I do know that my ancesters
are buried around Lawrenceville. I have seen their
graves at the Methodist Church outside town. The
Graves of my Grandparents are at Alamo, GA at the
Alamo Methodist/Baptist Church near the Oconee and
Altamaha Rivers. My Grandfather John E Craft is
Buried in Vicksburg, MS where he died in the Civil
War. How are you connected to the Martin Family?>
Let me hear and we can share information. I would
like to get upline info on my family. Jeanne Kersh

John Martin b. 1731 married Jenny Jane Hutchinson b.1730 d.1809. From what I can find, this was Captain John Martin who piloted one of five boat loads of Presbyterians organized by Rev. William Martin in 1772. They came to South Carolina. There appear to be as many Martins as Smiths, so unless you have more information there is no way I can tell is there is a relationship.
Hoping to hear from you.

I have a Jane Martin (17__) who married Francis Shaw Mahon from Antrim, Ireland. It is said her brother "Jack" went to SC where he had a plantation with about 500 slaves.
