My GGGgrandfather, John Siddall,b 1788 in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, was a vet during the Battle of Waterloo in 1814.
His wfe was Hannah b 1789, Newbury, Berkshire. They had Sarah b 1827 who d 1892, William b 1829, Anne b 1831 all in London, Middlesex.
Sarah married William Jackson in 1851 at St Pancras Church.
They had 8 children. William Labraw Jackson b 1861 was my Ggrandfather. WLJ married Mary Ann Gilbee Richmond.
I would love any information on this family.
Thanks, Penny

Hi Penny

My interest in this John Siddall is from my GGGgrandfather Frederick William Siddall. The only UK information I have is that he originated from Windsor, Berks. (Though perhaps not born!) He went to India in 1833 as a Farrier in the Bengal Artillery - where I believe he died sometime around the Indian Mutiny 1857/8.

This should be of interest to you as I find information on John Siddall a Vet of the 11th Light Cavalry - he is I believe another son of your John Siddall and you may also be missing a James and a Mary too.

There is an inscription at Windsor Holy Trinity regarding your John and Hannah (

SACRED/TO THE MEMORY OF/JOHN SIDDALL/VETERINARY SURGEON IN HER MAJESTY'S/ROYAL REGIMENT OF HORSE GUARDS/WHO DIED 2nd OCTOBER
1856 AGED 69 YEARS./SCIENCE HAS LOST IN HIM A TALENTED MASTER/ AND THE ARMY IN WHICH HE SERVED 53 YEARS/A FAITHFUL OFFICER/ HE WAS THE SON OF JAMES AND MARY SIDDALL,/WHO NOW LIE INTERRED IN THE CHURCHYARD/OF CLEWER IN THIS COUNTY/ALSO HANNAH,WIFE OF THE ABOVE/JOHN SIDDALL/WHO DIED FEB 22 1861 AGED 73 YEARS

I have since become aware of a Vet called James Siddall also from Windsor, and also a Mary Siddall but have as yet been unable to resolve any relationships. I'd be very interested if you have any further information too.

Regards

Nigel
