Hodge and Wilson in Lee Co. Va.
I was hoping to find someone connected to the Hodge and Wilson lines. I have what you posted, but thanks for trying.
Do you know anything about the Morris and Garrison fued? Richard Sr. Morris was suppose to have killed his first father in-law John Garrison and Johns sons killed Richard Sr..
Death of Richard Morris, Sr.
I had alway heard 2 stories of the death of Richard Morris, Sr. 1-Renegades came and stole his horses, he said if they came back he would kill them, they did and he did, then another renegade came back and killed him. (2)Renegades were working with Union soldiers, Richard Morrris, Sr. killed one of them and then he was killed by one of the Union soldier. Now I don't know much about the Civil War in the Keokee, Lee Co VA area (which I believe was called Crab Apple Orchard or something like that) where Richard Morris, Sr. lived but I never really believed the above stories from what little I know about the Civil War. I work in an emergency room, I have noted that almost all violence takes place between people who know each other, usually are related in some way (awful statement about our society isn't it). The suspected father of Thomas Clarkston, George Clarkson, was hung in the State of Franklin for the murder of his son-in-law who had beat his daughter. I can't help you prove your story but if it means anything I would tend to believe it.
Death of John Garrison, Sr.
Information I have has John Garrison, Sr d. 1874 while Richard Morris, Sr. d. 1864. Do I have something wrong?? Also I have both men buried in the same Morris Cemetery in Keokee, Lee Co VA. If there had been a feud would they have used the same cemetery??
I'm sorry I don't have the name Dean in my files. Calaway's daughter Margaret married a Clarkston, and I don't have any information on a second marriage if there was one. Wish I could have helped, I know how hard it can get connecting families. Good luck.
We're trying to find Margaret Dean we think was a Hodge, lived in or near Lee county in late 1800's, wife of Charles Dean.
We're grasping at straws-our grandfather was John Hodge Dean , we were hoping his mother was Margaret Hodge Dean. We've never located his parents Charles and Margaret Dean anywhere except on John's marriage application. We don't know where John came from before Lee county.
I am researching Fannon's/Fannin's in and around Lee Co. My greatgrandfather William Fannin/Fannon was in Wise county around 1900. I was told by my (now deceased) g-aunt Dori Fannin Sparks that her father went that way and had a brother (name unknown)in either Lee or Johnson Co. He went by the name "Will". I noticed you listed a T L Fannon Jr. do you know any more information on him that may help me. Thank you. Dave
John Haton Morris, Sr. & Jr.
Just curious....where did John Haton Morris, Sr. come from?
I'm looking for my ancestor John H. Morris who married in 1820 in Augusta Co., VA to Rebecca Chapman. One of his daughters, Frances Jane Morris, married Henry Kosciusko Dettor and her sister, Jennie, married Dave Ward.
Henry Dettor enlisted in the Confederate service in 1862 in Lee Co., VA. He was paroled at the end of the war on 07 May 1865 at Cumberland Gap,KY. I have not been able to located Henry and family between 1865 to about 1878 when he said in his CSA petition that he arrived in Panola Co., MS.
I have often wondered WHY he enlisted in Lee Co., VA in 1862 as he was living in Washington Co., VA in the 1860 census. I thought perhaps he might have had relatives in Lee County. Any connection to MORRIS and WARD in that county could be clues. When I saw the "Haton" as a middle name, I couldn't help but wonder if my own John "H" Morris, might be connected. Any help appreciated.
