Hi! Donna
I am not from Guyana so I will not be familiar of Brathwaites comming out of there in the 1960 - however I may be more familiar with those who went their in the 1800's and possible very early 1900's so if you have a family Tree leading back to the earliest Brathwaite in your family in Guyana I will be intrested to know included Josiah.
Regards Carol.

I don't know if there is any connection. All I have is the name of my grandmother, Rosary Brathwaite/Braithwaite, who was left in Barbados by her father to get medical treatment for a leg injury. When she arrived there, she was about 5 years old and spoke no English. We think that she could have been born any between 1900-1922. We have heard that she was born in Brazil, but Surinam has always been mentioned. Her father we are told was a captain on a ship. Anyone who think that they may know of a connection please respond.

Thanks for responding. You misunderstood my search. I know that my grandmother, Rosary Brathwaite/Braithwaite, is dead. She died in Barbados in 1977. What I am trying to do is to locate her relatives outside of Barbados as we have never met any of them. As I said in my previous posting, Rosary was left in Barbados by her father to get medical treatment for a leg injury. When she arrived there, she was about 5 years old and spoke no English. We think that she could have been born any between 1900-1922 (I believe it was closer to 1915). We have been told that she was born in Brazil, but Surinam has always been mentioned in connection with her father. He was reportedly a captain on a ship. Hope this is clearer.
