I recently was shown a letter that stated that my Great Great Grandfather Joseph Eash born July 4, 1842 Somerset Co., PA was the grandson of Christian and Sarah (Johns) Eash through their son Joseph born 1818. I also have his death certificate that shows his father as Joseph Eash and his mother is Susanna Stump. All the information I have seen on the internet has Joseph Eash married to Lydia Schrock. Their first child Gertrude born in 1843. Is it possible that my Great Great Grandfather Joseph's mother was never married to Joseph Eash, that he was born out of wedlock? I have found my Joseph on the 1850 census but not living with any Eash's and there is a Susan Stump living in another household on the same census for Conemaugh Twp, Somerset Co., PA. In the letter I mentioned it states that he has relatives living in Lagrange, Indiana which is where Joseph and Lydia moved to. We also have a picture of a Levi Eash that was in the possesion of a daughter of Joseph (1842) that has written on the back that he is Uncle Levi Eash. Joseph and Lydia had a son Levi which would make him Joseph's (1842) half brother if all this information is correct. Anyone have any comments or suggestions to any of this.

Deb,

I just came across your message on the message board dated 24 Oct 2002. I'm sure our Eash decendents are related. My gg grandparents came from Somerset Cty. also and many of them moved to LaGrange, IN. I'll give you the line and maybe you will recognize some of them. We have a web site with alot of info but much of what I have is not verified so I am in the process of doing that before we put the info on the web site. gf, Leonidas Eash b. 12 Mar 1886, three brothers, Hubbard 1878, Franklin, 1880, Hebron, 1881, their parents were Christian D Eash and Wilhelmina Horner.
Christain's parents were Joseph C b. 1823 and Sarah Raiser b. 1822. They had 5 children that I know of ; Elzira, 1843, Rosanna 1849,Christain, 1850 (my gg Grandfather), Barbara 1853, Sophia,1855. (all kids born in OH)(Joseph C died on 16 March 1881 in Wayne Twp, Tuscarawas Cty.)

Joseph C.'s parents were Christain b. 1800, and Barbara Fletcher b. 1801. They had at least 10 children. Joseph 1823,Jacob 1824, Anna 1827, Mary 1829, female 1832, Barbara 1835, John C 1837, Daniel C 1840, Benjamin 1842, Aaron 1844.(all born in Cambria Cty. PA)

Christain's parents were, Joseph b. 1776 and Barbara ?,b. 1801. They lived in Juniata Cty PA and all the kids were born there. Joseph died in Holmes Cty, OH 20 Sep 1857. They had 13 children. Christian, 1800 (my line) Joseph 1801, John 1802, Benjamin 1803, Magdalena 1805, Mary 1806, Barbara 1807, David 1808, Sarah 1810, Solomon 1812, Lydia 1813.

Joseph's parents were, Christian Esch b 1743, Esther Miller b. c. 1745. We have 6 children listed. Christina c. 1767, Jacobina c. 1772, Peter c. 1774, Jacob 1774, Joseph 1776, and Christian c. 1778. Both Christian and Esther were born in Germany as well as all the children except for Jacob. Cambria Cty, PA and Christian Eash Mifflin Cty, PA.

I also traced another line of Christian Esch and Esther Miller. Their son Jacob, although not my line, had a grandson, Christain who was a wagon maker in Cambria Cty. One of his wagons is on display in Holmes Cty, OH. Let me know if you can use this line as well.

I look forward to hearing from you. Let me know what your line is. It will be interesting to find the relationship. Please send a copy of your reply to lfearon67@hotmail.com. (thats my e-mail.) The one on top is my sons who actually started our research and has the web site.

Linda
