LUECKE's in WISCONSIN

I would like to talk with anyone who may be researching the Luecke family tree. The family name is quite large, but most of those persons of greatest interest are from the following: Aerzen, Reher and Multhopen Germany plus the Township Herman in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. I have a great deal of information already including some photographs from the towns in Germany and would be willing to share. I have the family traced to the 1700's and would like to go back even further. I have most of the family members of my age and I would like to get the information of any new family members. Thank you in advance for your help. brucerautmann@hotmail.com

I'm trying to find information about my husband's family tree. I don't know if they are related to your's. My husband's grandfather was Wilhelm Gottlieb Julius Lueck (later know as William Leek) was born Oct. 30, 1873 in Pulaski, WI to Gottlieb and Karoline Lueck. His baptism and confirmation forms are partially in German. His brothers and sisters: Fred, Albert, Adolph, Louise, Carrie and Annie. We don't have much information about his family tree since he died in 1924 when my husband's father was 7.
We have Leeks and Leecks in our family tree in both Wisconsin and Iowa. And we have Luecks in the old baptism forms from Wisconsin and Iowa.

I am just starting out in searching my family tree but I so have Luecke relatives. My great grand mother was Wilhelmina Luecke - daughter of Henry Luecke b. 1828 in Germany. There are conflicting dates and locations as to where my ggrandmother was born. One source says 1860 on ship to America; another says 1860 in Manitowoc, WI; the 1880 census lists her as b. 1862 in WI.; and her gravestone says she was born in 1860. She also had an older brother named Henry who was born in Germany or Luxembourg ( there is conflicts there also). This brother was supposed have spent a short time in the Civil War. Also conflicts with that story. Wilhelmina married Fred Muck. They lived in Shawano County, WI. after Henry moved his family from the Manitowoc area. I can find no record of her in Manitowoc. Does any of this fit in with your Luecke's? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Carol

Hello Carol: I too have a great many LUECKEs in my family tree. One is Heinrich Ludwig LUECKE born Feb. 3, 1822 and died March 5, 1907. He had married Sophia Anna HEUER and had at least six children...Dorothea, Henrietta, Johanna, Christian, Carl and Ernst.

This is the closest I have to your gggrandfather Heinrich. They had all settled in the area of northern Sheboygan County which is adjacent to Manitowoc County. Maybe one of my Heinrich's relatives may also be in your tree. His siblings were Alwin, Louise, Friederich, Ludwig and an unknown sister. Coincidently...Ludwig's middle name I believe was also Heinrich...Ludwig had a daughter named Wilhelmine...but I have this Wilhelmine married to a Friederich Martin HIDDE.

I would politely suggest that you find some type of birth, marriage or death certificate for your LUECKEs mentioned. This to concretely establish the LUECKEs name and ages. As you can see, they used just a few names for their first and middle names...Then they even went by some nicknames because another relative had to similiar of a name. Yes ! They did not think of the researcher's headaches.

I have never found many LUECKEs in the Manitowoc area. I would kindly suggest you look further into Sheboygan unless you have firm evidence disproving my suggestion. One absolutely great source is the people at the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center in Sheboygan Falls or www.SCHRC.org. They have some of the best files and some of the least expensive researchers a genealogist could want to find.

I have more than 75 LUECKEs or LUCKEs in my tree. In fact, the main home of my childhood is one of the original homes of my LUECKEs which was built in the 1850s. I have traced them back into the 1700s and would be happy to share with you.

Bruce

Thanks Bruce. I don't think my family fits in with yours, however. My late aunt started the research several years ago and had gotten much of her info from the LDS center in Shawano. Another late second cousin who shared the same grandmother claims she was born in Manitowoc. I know her father was Henry Luecke and he is buried in Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Bonduel, WI. There were probably several Lueckes who came through Manitowoc and all from different families. I have checked records for Manitowoc County but found nothing that fits. I have not checked with Sheboygan County yet. I also have an LDS center just a mile away from my house and have visited there but have not gone through all the records yet. Just thought that you might be in the same Luecke family but most of the names don't fit. Thank you for your time and suggestions Carol

Bruce:

My grandmother was a Luecke, born in New Jersey. Her father, Louis Ernst Friedrich Luecke, was born in Hermann, WI in 1864. His father, Ludwig Christian Lucke (without the "e") was born in 1826 in Germany. I believe this is the Ludwig you refer to. I also have info on Ludwig's daughter Wilhelmine (although my info has an "a" at the end - Wilhelmina) - b. 1855 Feb 7, married Friedrich Martin Hidde - as well as your relative, Heinrich (Ludwig's brother). Although I have his middle name as Wilhelm (same birth and death dates).

My info only goes back as far as Ludwig and Henrich's parents - Johann Heinrick (might be with an "h") Ludwig Lucke (b.1785 in Rehr, Hannover, Germany) and his wife Dorethea E. Wehrbein (no dates). Does this info synch with yours? I just received this stuff from my Dad's cousin, so I'm still sorting through it.

How much farther do you go back and who's house do you live in?

Steve

Hi,
I am very interested in your information as I believe it is my family as well. I have just begun this process and have notes from my great aunt about my g. g. grandfather Christian Luecke. He was born in Rehr, Hanover, Germany July 25, 1828. He came to America in 1845 with his parents, three brothers: Henry (1822-1907 married Sophia), Friederich (called Fritz 1824-1903 married Henrietta) Ludwig (called Louis - 1826-1896 married Dorothea) and four sisters not known.

Christian (1828-1901) left Wisconsin to study at a college in Fort Wayne Indiana and became a teacher. While opening a school in NYC he met and married Emilie von Henning she was born in Berlin on August 5, 1828

Emilie died 3/10/1894 in Chicago and Christian died 11/26/1901 in Springfield IL.

If your family is the same I would love more information, thanks.
