I am looking for information on the McKeever name from the North of Ireland, preferaby County Armagh. Both my maternal great grandmother and great grandfather had the surname McKeever. They met after both came to the US at different times. My great grandmother was Mary Bridget McKeever and my great grandfather was Michael McKeever (he was a tailor).

the name Mary McKeever is in our family book

here it is sorry no dates.
Robert McKeever married Mary Cahill (McKeever)
children:
William J.
Robert,
Mathew,
James,
Peter,
Rita,
Mary,
Lillian,
Rose

We are linked by the William J. who married and then went on to have my husbands father
Joseph Edward who was always called Edward.
It seems in his family the name on the birth certificate was not always the name you are called by the middle name is. Perhaps this can help the only date I can give you is that William J the son of Robert and Mary McKeever resided in Staten Island NY and William died Aug. 25. 1971 date of birth unkown.

My grandfather, Patrick J. McKeever, was in the NYC Fire Department and retired about 1940. Not sure when he was born but he married Annie Sullivan in 1903 so was probably already with the N.Y.F.D. at that time. I was told by my aunt Mary McKeever that he fought the Triangle fire in 1911.

His parents came from Donegal (family legend says their ship landed in NY the day after Lincoln's assasination) and he was one of six children, although I don't know anything about any of them. If he was able to go to work for the fire department, maybe one of his brothers got a job with the police.

Hi,
Perhaps there could be a link here.

this is as far back as I have.
Robert McKeever married Mary Cahill
children :
William J.
Robert
Mathew
James
Peter
Rita
Mary (could this be your aunt Mary, maybe depending on your age?)
Lillian
Rose
9 children

then William J. first born son married Irene
Crowely and then married Anna Galbrith

children fathered by William J. :
Arthur
Madealine
Gloria
(all by Irene)
Joseph
William
(by Anna)

the Joseph ( is really called Edward) and that is listed on SS. but states Joseph on birth certificate.
Maybe there is a link
I will do more research to find out.

Thanks for answering but no, different Mary. My aunt's parents were Patrick Annie Sullivan McKeever. They lived in NYC.

Looking for a Mary, a Patrick or an Annie in an Irish-American group is like looking for Joe Smith.

I am just starting to research my father's family. My grandfather, Michael, was a Trenton, NJ policeman and so was my father, John, and his brother, James. My father was very active in Police Organization, to include Police and Fire Pension Board. NY being so close, perhaps some of your family know of him. Would have been during the years of 1950-1985. Please email me at samurl@worldnet.att.net if you have any info or any leads on how to trace my Iris roots.

Email me Liza!!!!!
