http://members.tripod.com/~jack0204/gen/Heskew/wm_heskew_ran... is a good site that talks about the Jetts. Most of the information posted there coinsides with the letters I have.

William Glen Jett was also my great grandfather. My father was Chester J. Jackson, Jr.
his mother Nellie W. (Jett) Jackson

Texas Ranger Jett.

Looking for information about an early Texas Ranger who's last name was Jett.

Do not have his first name but his wife's name was Clarinda Kuykendall-Jett.

(Clarinda Jett was a member of my husband's family, & the information we have on her husband is very minimal, just one simple reference: a story, handed down about that Ranger & recorded & re-recorded in family accounts.)

I'd like to have more information on this Texas Ranger to add to my husband's families historical story.

Thanks to anyone who can help me find more information on this Ranger.

Ann

Saw your 2010 post. Wondering if you've since found info. If not I have some on him, as well as his brothers, also Rangers.

Beverly,
Hi sorry it took so long to answer. I just got an alert from Ancestor.com with your information.
William Glen Jett was married to Clarinda Kuykendahl. His father in law was Wiley Kuynendahl. He fought (with the confederates)at the battle of Glorieta (New Mexico territory) pass. The battle was terrible & some men were buried where they died. It was a "...little known..." battle of the Civil War. William Glen Jett & the other surviors of the battle of Glorieta Pass (NM territory): returned to Texas. The trip back was fraught with danger & difficult passage with little food to be found on the way. William Glen Jett became a Texas Ranger. His gun is in the museum at "The Alamo." He had a brother names Steven. I'll have to look for further information in the few family records I have of him.

Thanks for posting. I did find a bit more information but would be interested in more if I could get more.
William Glen Jett fought at the battle of Glorietta Pass, NM territory.) In the not too distant past, somethings belonging to those who fought there were found. I don't know where those things are archived, just saw a newspaper article about it.
William was married to Clarinda Kuykendahl. (Father-in-law: Wiley Preston Kuykendahl.)
William's gun (one of them) is at the museum at the Alamo.
Thanks for replying.

There is much info on the JETTS as Rangers, etc. One source: 'Veteran Biographies of the Herzstein Library in San Jacinto'. I've been to the 'TX Rangers Museum in Waco, TX'; they didn't have anything at least on display or about the Jetts, but doesn't mean they don't on file. I haven't followed up as still working on genealogy outline for 4 lines in my TX husband's family. (FYI: 'The Lone Ranger' was based on the life of TX Ranger JOHN REID)

Would you like quick lineage summary, first?

JOHN W. JETT, b.1787, Montgomery Cty., VA, d.1840, White Cty., TN. [son of Stephen and Francis (Howerton) Jett of the North Fork of Holsten River, Washington Cty., VA.] In 1810 in Montgomery Cty., VA, JOHN married MARY POLLY (WHITE), b.1791, VA, d.1860, White Cty., TN, [daughter of John and Martha (Phillips) White of White Cty., TN. (WHITE my husband's line)]

[The WHITEs were early settlers in VA, then early in White Cty, TN; some remained there, others removed to TX.]

John and Mary (White) Jett resided in White Cty., TN near her parents and raised numerous children there. Four sons went on to become TX Rangers:

JAMES MATTHEW JETT, b.1811, White Cty., TN, d.1845, Fayette Cty., TX. (TX Ranger)(he and fellow Ranger, Simeon Bateman, murdered by John Schultz in 1845)

STEPHEN JETT, b.1813, White Cty., TN, d.1842, Salado Creek, Bell Cty., TX. (TX Ranger)(ambushed/killed just after Battle of Salado)

MARTHA PHILLIPS "Patsy" JETT, b.1816, White Cty., TN, d.1896, White Cty., TN

JOHN WHITE JETT, b.1817, White Cty., TN, d.1874, White Cty., TN.

ELIZABETH JETT, b.1818, White Cty., TN, d.1880, Trenton, TN

Maj. WILLIAM "Bill" GLENN JETT, b.1821, White Cty., TN, d.1872, San Antonio, TX. (TX Ranger)

FERDINAND JETT, b.1823, White Cty., TN, d.1849, Fayette Cty., TX, of cholera. (TX Ranger)

MARY ELIZABETH JETT, b.1825, White Cty., TN, d.aft.1870, White Cty., TN

ARCHIBALD OVERTON JETT, b.1827, White Cty., TN, d.1905, White Cty., TN.

WOODSON PHILLIPS JETT, b.1829, White Cty., TN, d.1865, Fort Riley, KS

SARAH E. JETT, b.1831, White Cty., TN, d.1896, White Cty., TN.

THOMAS JEFFERSON JETT, b.1834, White Cty., TN, d.1889, White Cty., TN

I have more on WHITE and also JETT, i.e. spouses etc. if you want more.
