Looking for my Johnson ancestors...

Looking for my Johnson ancestors...

Posted: 4 Oct 2012 8:41PM GMT
Classification: Query
I am looking for any information John P Johnson born 1792 in Maryland and died in 1882 in Iowa. I think his wife's name was Susanna Johnson born in 1795 in Pennsylvania and died in 1868 in Iowa. Her maiden name is unknown. Any information anyone might have on them..their parents..just anything. They were parents to Jacob W Johnson born in 1829 in Indiana who was married to Barbara Baltimore Johnson born in 1831 in Indiana. Their son was my great great grandfather John P Johnson married to Philena Taylor Johnson..they came down here to Missouri in 1892. I have been trying to trace our family back..after I found John P and Susanna I have hit a block. After the death of Susanna, John P married Matilda Griffin...maybe that would help. John P is buried in Graceland cemetery. I think he was in the War of 1812. Susanna is buried in an old cemetery in Homer...where Jacob and Barbara are buried. I am so sorry to go on and on. Please feel free to share anything anyone knows.
Thank you so very much!!
Genia Johnson Daniels

I am a Johnson researcher as that is my maiden name. I am not related to John P Johnson.

https://www.familysearch.org/ is my favorite FREE website.

1830 Henry Co Indiana
John P Johnston . . .one of several John Johnson's/Johnston's in Indiana in 1830. one male age 30 - 39 b. 1791 - 1800, 1 female 1821-1825, 3 females 10 - 14 1816 - 1820, 1 female 30-39. This is not your John P Johnson.

So if you calculate that John P Johnson was 21 to 23 years old when he married using birthyear of 1793 and year of marriage 1815-1816 and "Susan" was either born in PA or OH abt 1795 and Jacob W Johnson, oldest known child, was born in Indiana about 1827. They married OH, PA or IN.

They were already in Berrien Co MI in 1840 but should be in Indiana in 1830 census. I find one Ohio marriage record for a John Johnston to Susan Asher 15 Aug 1816 Harrison Co OH. "Ohio, County Marriage Index 1813-1828," index and images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org

Anthony Asher b. PA 1794 married Emilia "Milly" Barks/Parks (sic) b. OH 1796 on same ledger page married same day 15 Aug 1816 lived in Nottingham, Harrison Co OH 1820 and Washington, Tuscarawas Co OH 1830 - 1850. There were 30 Johnson families listed in Harrison Co OH in 1820 census and fewer Johnston's.

Pedigree for Anthony Asher b. 1793 Bedford Co PA death Ohio 1856 father reported to be Luke Asher mother Nancy Scott; siblings Rachel b. 1800 PA spouse Nathan Huff; Abraham Asher 1 Oct 1808 - 1882 Henderson Co IL married 1832 Guernsey Co OH Sarah Scott and 1857 Porter IN Harriet Gonyou; Susan Asher 1795 Bedford Co PA married John Johnston.

Abraham Asher b. PA 1807 - 1810 resident of Harrison, Kosciusko, IN 1850 resident of Porter Co IN 1860. Also show marriage for Abraham to Nancy Spraul 1842 Harrison Co Ohio.

■BIRTH: Calculated based on age 21y at time of marriage in 1816.
NOTE: Link to Luke ASHER not yet proven! Circumstantial evidence only.
