Seeking others who have had paternal DNA done on the line of James Milton Neal. Recent discoveries from my Dad's DNA (done with ancestry and Family Tree DNA) indicate possible NPE (non-parental event), which means a single mom who used her surname for our male ancestor, or there was an adoption. Dad's Y-DNA matches so far point in the direction of a non-parental event. This apparently would mean that our family surname was something other than Neal.

We are awaiting further Y-DNA (paternal) testing through FTDNA, which will look at additional "markers", which may help clarify things. We are also awaiting mtDNA Plus(maternal) through FTDNA. Both are due back on April 8, 2013. Testing so far has given us a Haplogroup and SNP, which origins in Scotland. Very interesting.

I am hoping to connect with any other James Milton Neal (paternal only) descendents who have done DNA testing. Obviously, I would be delighted to hear from anyone else who has an interest in this line as well.

I must add that I am so proud of my almost 93-year-old Dad for his willingness to have this DNA testing done. He is amazing.

Thank you.
Diane

I'm commenting because I want to watch this thread. My own Neal line is extremely elusive, so I find the NPE possibility interesting.

Hope you find the answers you seek :)
