Hi Frede,
I've seen your tree... This is the 1899 arrival manifest for Louis's wife Josephine (Giuseppa Palmeri), she was travelling with her three children and was going to Walton to meet her husband Luigi Renzi... So the correct italian lastname was Renzi for sure:

8 august 1899

Palmeri Giuseppa, female, age 27 married, from Ducento, possibly Dugenta (Benevento Province - campania region) travelling with children Antonio Renzi male age 6, Carolina female age 5, Alfonso male 9 months. Joining her husband Luigi Renzi in Walton...

This is another confirmation for the place of origin being Dugenta...
From the site Familysearch.org the 1915 marriage license for Tony Lurenz who stated that his plae of birth was Dugenta:

I saw the 1900 census that you linked to your tree:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=1900usfedcen&a...

children on the 1899 arrival manifest are Antonio (Tato on the census) age is correct, Carolina (Caroline on the census) age is correct and Funce (an americanized nickname for Alfonso) age is correct...

I think the 1900 census is correct, because I found also a 1915 NY state census and all the child you listed are present, and there are listed also Tony (Antonio) age 22 born in Italy and Frank (possible Alfonso) age 17 born in Italy and the other child born in the U.S. are Louis 15, Michael 12, Lena 10, John 8, Joseph 7, Paul 5, George 4 and Clarence 57 days?

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=...

They were living on 21 Burton street, the same address of the 1910 census (with child Tony=Antonio, Mary=Caroline, Frank=Alfonso all born in Italy)

If these censuses are correct then also the 1900 census is.
