the information i have is:
thomas findley, william james blackburn findley (my 2g grandfather) and a brother-in-law left pennsylvania and went to the oregon. they stayed there for a time and then in approx. 1847 went to what is now grass valley and nevada city, ca. the brother thomas stayed in california and amongst other things became the second state treasurer of california in approx. 1860.
i do have lots more info if you are interested. a good portion comes from the historical society in nevada city.
