I have just recently found a Hannah Soverns of unknown parentage from Monongalia Co (w)Va who m. Drake Swindler 13 Oct 1810. I am descended from their dau Malinda who married Wm Weaver. Wm and Malinda's dau Sabina m. Samuel E. Taylor 06 June 1849 in Monongalia Co. They soon moved to Wood County and had several children there and returned to Preston Co WV shortly before 1870. I'd be happy to exchange info with any related line. I have nothing else on the Soverns though. - Sandy Keltner

Sandy, great to hear from you! My friend Alice Severns and I have an enormous amount of information on the Severns/Soverns lines. Hannah Soverns, b. 1790, prob. Monongalia Co., VA, was the dau/Joseph Severns/Soverns and Mary Southworth. Joseph, b. 20 June 1759, Hunterdon Co., NJ, d. 9 Feb 1848, Brown Twp., Knox Co., OH, m. Mary Southworth abt. 1780, prob. in Monongalia Co., VA, since there are records of her father being there. Mary was born abt. 1764 and died abt. 1808, since Joseph remarried Charity Unknown abt. 1808. Mary Southworth has a line going back to John and Priscilla Alden of Mayflower and beyond to European royalty. Drake Swindler is on the 1850 Census for Preston Co., WV, age 60, living with a Rebecca, age 60, Joseph, age 35, a teacher, and Rebecca, age 19. Apparently his first wife Hannah died before 1831, as dau/Rebecca would no doubt be named after his second wife, Rebecca. I would love to have any details beyond what you posted. Write me at fskeels@aol.com and we'll discuss how I can best share more Severns/Soverns data. Patsy Skeels

I am glad to meet a descendant of Jesse and Eliza. I have researched them for years, and I would LOVE know their parents. All I have are some possibilities for Jesse, as he seems to have originated in Monongalia County, VA, now Preston Co., WV along with several other members of the Soverns/Severns families. Are you a member of the Severns Myfamily website? I have posted a biography there of Jesse, which you may find interesting. I have suspected for a long time that Jesse is closely related, perhaps brother to my ancestor, John Soverns, the first, but I have no proof as yet.John was youngest son of Daniel Soverns/ Severns, of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, who then pioneered land in Monongalia, eventually moving, along with most of his family, to Coshocton and Knox counties in Ohio. If you want to join the free-no obligation family website, send me your e-mail. Send to fskeels@aol.com
