Poland? The orignal Fagot brother who began the Louisiana and Alabama lines came from Voiron, France, near Grenoble, in the Dauphin province, I believe in the Haute Savoy alps. According to some records I found in the library of Congress, the name changed from Faguet to Fagot. It could be Swiss or from the Alsace-Lorraine area. Please contact me, I'm interested in this Polish branch.

Like i said before, i don't know much about my great grandfather William Fagot because he died when he was 37. My grandmother was seven and doesn't remember much but that he came from Poland in his teens probably around the 1910ish. He married Grace Solomon and they had one daughter named floretta who later married Robert Trilling. Floretta and Robert are my grandparents. Hopefully someone might have some information on my great grandfather. I think he might have had some brothers who might have stayed in poland but i'm not sure.

Hi,

My name is Jordan Fields (changed from Fagot in the early '70s). I currrently live in Maryland but I'm originally from Chicago. I remember that a Grace Fagot was in the Chicago phone book years ago but I never knew her. My uncle, William (Wolf) Fagot, who was not your great-grandfather, told me that Grace was some kind of a cousin by marriage but he wasn't very specific about that and I never asked him for details. He's been gone for a number of years, though he lived into his 90s. He was my father, Saul's, older brother. I can't see how we could possibly be related to the French Fagots, who very likely are Catholic.

Oddly enough, I once knew a Bob Trilling. He and I were fraternity brothers. Unless you are younger than I imagine you are, he can't be your grandfather. The one I knew would be or would have been an attorney in the Chicago area and was married to and divorced from a woman whose first name was Sandie.

Have I hit anything that makes a connection for you.

Hi,

Hope you're still interested in this topic. My father, Saul Fagot, was born in Kikol in 1904 and died in Chicago in 1961. He had an older brother named William (Wolf)and the name of Grace Fagot as a distant cousin came up in conversation many years ago because she was also listed in the Chicago telephone directory. I never met her but understood that she was a cousin by marriage.

Are you related to the Bob Trilling who graduated from Roosevelt University in 1959 and was a member of the Praetorians there?

Hello,

The Robert Trilling you are thinking of is not my grandfather. I do know who you are talking about because in another 'forum' he wrote to me after I asked about the surname Trilling. I guess he knew my grandfather because they had met and thought that it was interesting the had the same last name. It was nice hearing a story from him because my grandfather died when I was three in 1989. Grace Fagot was my great-grandmother and lived into the 1990's. I really wish I had more information on my great-grandfather William Fagot. I know Grace and him were sort of cousins (distant though!). He moved here from Poland around 1910 and left family in Poland. He opened a mens clothing store in Chicago on Cottage Grove. I am glad you responded to my message. I plan on talking to my grandmother to find out any other information I can. But, like I have said before, she was seven when he died. Thanks again for responding.

Thanks, Sahah, for responding. It appears that we are distant cousins, though we know practically nothing about our family connection.

Hello! My father, Josef Fagot was born in Poland in 1919. His mother's name was Pola. He was a famous amateur boxer in Poland. His immediate family (brothers, sisters,) all died in the Holocaust, as did his first wife and daughter. He was in Mauthausen Concentration Camp. I'm hoping to find any relatives of my dad's. He passed away 18 years ago. Since this is an unusual last name, I'm hoping that some other Polish Fagots (even with changed names) are alive and if so, would be so kind as to respond.

It's been three and 1/2 years since you posted your inquiry and I guess that means that I haven't looked at these messages in a while. As I wrote to another person on this site, my father's family lived in a small village called Kikol. It is in western ( formerly Prussian ) Poland near a city named Torun. Does that mean anything at all to you? He and his older brother came to the US well before WWI. Their parents and sister never left. I have no information concerning when and how they died except for the fact that I was named after my father's father. Consequently, that means that he died before the Holocaust came to Poland.

Hi-
I recently found out that my grandmother's maiden name was Fagot. She was born in Kikol in about 1892 when it was part of the Russian empire. When she came to this country in 1909, she changed her name to Minnie Fine, worked in NY City for the Sanitzki family and in 1918, married Samuel Lederman and had 5 daughters, and lived in New Brunswick, NJ. Apparently she had a brother who changed his name to Morris Fine from Moritz Fagot and a cousin named Beckie Perlowitz. This is the only information I have. Do you know of Michlja Fagot in your family tree? Thanks.
