Susan,
What did your dad hear about Fahertys in St Louis? We would really like to link our St Louis Fahertys with their Irish cousins. Of couse, my father-in-law just says that all Fahertys are related. Because that is what his dad told him!

Is your father still alive?
Our Faherty ancestor -Edmond-came over to Maryland in the 1790's. His cousins Mark and Patrick were also there. We believe that Mark ded young and we know that his family remained in the Maryland/ Washington DC area.
Patrick and Edmond moved to Kentucky around 1810-1812, then around 1818 they went to Randolph Co Illinois which is just south of St Louis. I don't believe that they actually travelled together, they did things as they could afford them.
Faherty's continued to join them in Illinois until at least 1870. At that point, many moved up to St Louis. We also had some Fahertys and affilated families move up to Wisconsin and out to Texas as those areas opened up.
They were a very tight group that kept track of their relatives for a long time.
Affilated families are Connelly, Whelan, Tewell, Ohara, Mudd, Simpson,Dillon, Walsh (Welch, Walsh), Kavanaugh, Flaherty and Horrell.

Two of the three children are living in St Louis. One is Father WIlliam Faherty- a Catholic and a historian. He lives in Jesuit Hall in St Louis. He is a wonderful man and would love to talk to you. He is a bit hard of hearing though. Few people have impressed me as much as he has.
