My maternal grandfather was Charles Ganshow whose name was altered during immigration (says my mother). He was born in Brooklyn ~1888 (we have a photograph of him standing next to a cow) to a piano maker who was said to have eloped with the daughter of the burghermeister of the Black Forest before emmigrating to America. He was one of 6 children, but kept contact with only a few (Uncle Bill who never married and Aunt Hildegarde who lived in Brooklyn for most of her life). My mother, Shirley Ganshow b. 1925 (sister Dorothy, brother Robert) has a cousin Charlotte Ganshow who may still be out on Long Island where my mother grew up (Garden City). I would like to find some of my relatives. Please let me know is you have any information? Thanks.

I was told that the spelling was changed to Ganshow, but it used to be Ganschow or Ganschou.Von Ganschou is listed as a Swedish royal family. I always heard that the original Ganshow, Ganschow, Ganschou? was from Germany? I also heard that Gans, means Goose and Schou means show in German? my e.mail is Matthewg7@msn.com
