Andrew, do you have any knowledge of your McKinster background? Where did your parents, grandparents, and great grandparents come from? Where do you live? How far back do you have a history. One of our problems as McKinsters is not being able to connect the families. Mine happens to go back to PA and NY but I can't connect to any of the other families; therefore I have been unable to go back any further than 1850 in NY. Tell us a little about yourself and perhaps you can assist all of us. Sincerely, Pat Popple-------Chippewa Falls, WI. My ancestors followed the logs from Maine to PA and NY to Wisconsin.

Andrew,
I descend from William McKinster and Elizabeth Hail (or Hines) that lived in Greenbrier, Russell and Tazewell Counties, VA. Elizabeth and some (or all) of her children came to Lawrence Co., KY, about 1820. Tell us something about yourself and perhaps we can help connect you to one of the families. You may contact me direct if your like at LMckin@aol.com.

Hi Patricia,

We've talked before. I'm answering this message to update you and let you know of something I found that might be helpful to you. Try this web address:

There's a whole family of McKinstry's, I think I found Eleazor who I believe is the father of my Dewy Makinster. Maybe your link is here. Good luck.

Thank you so much for the site. I have seen at least a part of this before I believe, but this one was much more extensive. Having done a thorough study, I am unable to connect this McKinstry with my McKinster family. My Henry was born in N.Y. My family was also of Methodist upbringing. It seems the Sarah Elizabeth in my family was a "cousin" to a Smith. None of my family appears to be well educated like this family. And I believe that the Titus and Hannah McKinster in my family came from Rhode Island. They may be related, but with the info given I can't see a connection. I know there were two other McKinstry brothers who also came to America. I think we need to remain in touch as there is probably a connection, but as of this date I surely can't find it. The Henry I found in Minnesota may be your Henry although I believe there is a Dewy or Henry buried in the Duluth, Mn. area according to the Wauseca, Mn. info I received.

Thanks Patricia,
I got an e-mail from the man with that site, I'm sure I must have a connection, there can't possibly be two Eleazer McKinstry/Makinster's!? But I'll have to research a bit more to conclude a link for sure.

My Dewey or Dewy Makinster is buried in Foster, Faribault County, MN in Rice Lake Cemetery. He died 10/21/1906.
A lot of my family, Makinster, Gerber, Siebel are in that cemetery. You can search for this at the MN GenWeb site it comes up as "Markinster". I've never found anything yet that lists my Dewey as Henry, he's always been Dewey or Dewy on census, etc...

Nice to hear from you, we'll keep digging and figure this out someday!

Take care,
Tryna

Hello,

Now I am not sure that the Eleazor Makinster I found on the one link I posted is the same person as mine. The one who is the son of Salmon Makinster. Hard to believe there could ever be two Eleazor Makinsters... But I will keep investigating.

I did finally find Eleazor Makinster on the census for 1850, WI, Rock County, Beloit. He's listed at E. McKinster with wife Susan, children Lee, Harriet, Oren, Emily and John. I believe now that this is the father of my Dewey Makinster because Dewey is in Rock County, WI then also and the ages match up with him being the oldest sibling. Dewey and his bride Eliza are living in nearby Centre township right next door to Eliza's parents David and Lavina Pepper.

So Patricia, we still haven't found a connection, but getting more info. all the time. I got the information from a "Skinner" cousin of mine about Eliza Makinster's maiden name and some other tidbits that helped me to put more together.

You mentioned a Dewey or Dewy buried in WI? Could be related. My Dewey is buried in the Rice Lake Cemetery in Faribault County MN.

Keep in touch.
