Anyone researching the Rivetts come across this connection? My particular interest is Mary Rivett Carnac b ca 1829 @ Durham, possibly with a sister Adelaide. I cannot trace their maiden name. Mary had a son Clement G b ca 1850 in India.

Hi - good to hear from you - and thanks for info. This is looking good - I can now try and see if Mary Anstruther Wilkinson had a sister Adelaide. If you have any info on the Wilkinson side, I would be most grateful.

Hi Marianne
According to my records Edith Emily Brownlow was daughter of Henry Halford Brownlow of Shillong, India. Date and place of birth unknown. Details of mother unknown. She married John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac on 14 May 1887 at Shillong: her father was a witness (IOLR: N/1/200/166). He was employed with the Indian Police rising to Deputy Inspector-General at HQ Silchar. They had four sons and a daughter (do you want their details?). Her husband died in India in 1948. She died on 16 May 1950 (place unknown).
Apologies for delay in this reply. Hope it is useful? Please advise any corrections and additions to resolve unknowns etc.
Kind regards
Michael Rivett-Carnac

Yes please, I would like more info on Rivett-Carnac children and if you have any photos with Edith Emily I would love a copy.
My g-grandfather was Henry Halford Brownlow (Jnr) Edith's younger brother. Their parents were Henry Halford Brownlow and Ann Jane Jones, married 2 March 1865, in Sylhet, Assam, India. I believe Edith was born about 1866. Henry Halford Brownlow (jnr) was born 6 November 1867, in Cachar, Assam, India.
Cheers
Marianne

I am a granddaughter of Nina Blanche Halford Blewitt nee Brownlow who in turn was a sister to Edith Emily Brownlow who married John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac. In spite of my grandparent having moved to Perth in the 1920s after the death of her husband Thomas Wilford Blewitt it looks as though she maintained contact with her sister and the Rivett-Carnacs.During the Second World War my father also Thomas Wilford Blewitt met James William Rivett-Carnac in Auckland. Rivett-Carnac at that time was Vice-Admiral of the Q-British Pacific Fleet. Just a matter of historical interest.

Dear Leanne, thank you for your message. I guess you know(?) that John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac and his wife Edith Brownlow had four sons and one daughter and have numerous descendants who are your Brownlow cousins: Col. John Claude Thurlow R-C ("Jack") b.1888 d.1975, who has descendants living in UK and New Zealand, Captain Percy Kenneth R-C b.1890 d.1932, Lt-Col. Herbert Gordon R-C b.1892 d.1962, Edith Maud ("Day") b.1895 d.1983, who married Major-Gen. Edward TEMPLE, and has descendants living in UK, Commissioner Edward Charles R-C b.1901 d.1980. who has descendants living in Canada. I knew John Claude Thurlow very well as "Uncle Jack", although he was my cousin, and also once met cousin Day. I also know some of their descendants in New Zealand, Canada and UK.
Season's Greetings, Michael Francis Rivett-Carnac

Dear Michael

Thank you for your seasonal wishes which are returned. Do you by any chance have a chart listing the descendancy from Edith Emily Brownlow and John Thurlow Rivett-Carnac as I don't have details? Such details are of course to be kept strictly within the family. I have been undertaking some genealogical work on the Blewitt family and have not really undertaken anything on the Brownlow side to date so would appreciate any help available. In case you want to reply off the website my email address is leanneandpeter@talktalk.net

my mother is from the Temple family. as a little girl, she lived in New Zealand but moved to Devon when she was about 8. we all live in England now. My Granddad (James/ David Temple) was born in India but was sent to boarding school in England. I think he has some connection with Highclere Castle..? the Scarlet family live in Dorset, they also have connections with the Rivett Carnacs.
there are two archbishops of Canterbury in the Temple family: Frederic and William, his father.
I don't know much about the family but i would like to find out!
