Seek info on Nancy Doughty, b. Fauquier, VA in 1780s, and husband Stephen Peyton, of Nicholas Co., KY.

Nancy was the daughter of Thomas Doughty and Elizabeth Jones. The Doughtys moved to KY and lived next door to Stephen Peyton according to 1820 census. Nancy and Stephen married in 1806.

Question: which Stephen Peyton did Nancy marry? There were two men by that name in that place. Where they father and son?

Thanks for any details you can provide.

Can't help you on Nancy, but I have a gggg grandfather, James, believed born Botetourt county Virginia, about the same time (family had land near Doughtie's creek). Also moved to Kentucky sometime prior to 1792. His name is in 1820 Kentucky (Bowling Green)census, showing wife Deborah, daughter Elizabeth, sons Stephen (20) and Preston (25). Do you know of any connection between James and Nancy? Did Thomas Doughty have a son James?

Kristin: Can't help you much on the Payton Side. But here is some Doughty info that may help you.

The Thomas Doughty of Fauquier County, with whom I was unable to determine
a connection, was married to Mary "Polly" __________. This Thomas was born
about 1746 in Basking Ridge, Somerset Co., N.J., son of John Doty and
his wife _________ Skillman, and his line can be traced back to Edward
Doty of the Mayflower. According to the "Doty" book, page 304, he was a
blacksmith. The children of Thomas and Mary Polly were:

i. William [bond to marry Peggy Lawler 1803, April 8, Fauquier Co Va],
He first appears on the 1796 Fauquier Co Tx List with father John
chargeable, so he was probably born about 1780. William posted bond
with Patrick Brady for Brady's marriage to sister Osee.
ii. John makes his first appearance on the 1798 Fauquier tax list, so
would have been born about 1782. He testified to father's signature
inre Osee Doughty's marriage.
iii.Skillman. Lived near Abingdon, Indiana
iv. Elizabeth [married Dennis Hudson 1796, March 22, Fauquier Co Va].
v. Osee [married Patrick Brady 1800, June 26, Fauquier Co Va]. Father
Thomas Doughty agrees--William and John testify.
vi. Fanny married James Ellis
vii Allie m. William Crawford
viii Lucinda m. George Ervin
ix. Malinda m. Samuel Knox
x. Nancy m. Stephen Payton

No, I'm sorry, Thomas had several children but I don't see a James listed. I don't know of any connection between your Doughtys and mine, but must also say that doesn't necessarily mean anything!

Jeff... I'm currently researching Thomas and Mary Polly Doughty. I'm interested in their daughter Frances (Fannie) who married James Mason Ellis. I heard there is a Mayflower Connection.... I would appreciate if you could send me the pedigree to Edward Doty... thanks. JWeintraub@Fullerto.edu

The wife was Osee or Osie Skillman. The son, Skillman Doughty lived in Abingdon Iowa not Indiana. He also was a blacksmith. If you want more info--stoutm@kdsi.net
