I have been searching for a man named Ebon or Eben or Ebenezer Hunter who married Eliza Jane Havens in 1830 in Rush Co IN and they had a son named Lewis Marshall Hunter born about 1831. I found him in Orange Co IN in the 1850 census with a family named Havens, I am thinking these are his maternal relatives. I have the marriage license copy from Rush county IN and there is no indication how old he was when he was married, but I found a reference to Ebon Hunter being in the Indiana 57th Infantry Co. F. but when I check the Civil war records that are posted online for that name, he is not listed. Lewis Marshal Hunter was listed for the IN 37th infantry H Co.so with both of them in the service at the same time, I figure that Ebon Hunter was born no later than 1812, getting married at age 18, having his son Lewis Marshal Hunter in 1831, so that both are within the right ages. Lewis Marshal Hunter died between 1870 and 1880 in Shelby Co IN, living in Addison Township in 1870 and his widow was married in 1880 according to 1900 Rush Co IN census data. His only living children were Hattie Ola b 1867 d. 1926 and Edward Hunter b. 1861. I found an Edward Hunter in the town of Rushville b. 1861 as a renter. It shows a "D"(for divorved?) but nothing else. I have 2 manuscripts that have helped me piece this much together, but they do not mention cousins named Hunter in Rushville or that area. Some of the names that may have connections are:Havens, Waggoner, Pollett, and Harden.I do not know if Edward remarried and/or had children, where his father Lewis Hunter is Buried, or where Ebon/Ebenezer Hunter and his wife Eliza lived and died after 1830, or where He was born. Since it was in the early 1800's, his family may have been from eastern U.S. for a generation. If any of this sounds remotely like any Hunter line that matches the time frame, the general area of IN (or OH then IN) or any of the related names, please post a note, I will check it out for the possibilities. Thanks in advance-Joan Striegel

Thanks for asking, but I want to ask you to look something up for me, the Eben Hunter you listed, the birth and death dates seem to be off, so do you have the references for them? do you have any info about his wife and family are where he lived, I have found bits and pieces, but they don't fit together either, There is a possibility that he had a son named after him and the son's age would be right for the Civil War record I found listed. This son would not be the first one born, Lewis Marshall Hunter was the first born. These Hunters were in the central parts of Indiana during the years you have listed, maybe piece by piece we will find these Hunters! Happy Hunting! Joan

Yvette, I've just started with the Hunter family tree and found your response to Joan to have the same Hunter names I have. It starts with Eben DOB 7-22-1800 (no death date) either was married to a Jane or had a sister named Jane Hunter dob 11-13-1805. However we think Eben had three children Martha DOB 12-25-1843 Clinton) , Sewell DOB 1-6-1828 Clinton and Albert B DOB 12-6-1861 Lowell. I don't think this is corrrect since you stated Eben died at a young age and he would have been 43 and 61 years of age when he had Martha and Albert. So I'm probably missing a generation.

Albert B Hunter may have had two wives. One was Elmina Idell Jackson married on 2-28-1880 in West Troy Maine.
Sewell married ? on 01/1862 in Clinton maybe (Helen Workes)
Can't find anything on Martha.

Albert B and Elmina (Indian Descent Seneca we think) had four children Clarence DOB 6-30-1885 Belfast, Willis Elmer DOB 11-26-1888, Wilbur Ozias 3-14-1896 and Albert Dexter 9-5-1898 Wilkes Barre,Pa. (my grandfather).

Albert B died 10-24-1920 in New York ? Elmina died 9-26-1913 in Wilkes Barre, Pa.

Clarence married Bessie had a daughter - not sure if more children were born, possibly a son. Clarence died 2-25-1964 ? Gardiner.

Willis Elmer married Mary Ann Markovitch 7-16-1914. Had daughter Jean 4-22-1934 ? Willis died 10-19-1964 in Decatur, Illinois.

Wilbur died of appendicitis on 1-8-1909 age 12.

Albert Dexter married Mary Kapostacy (my grandparents) They had four children Art, Albert, Michael and Mary Ann (my mother). Unfortunately I never met my grandparents. My grandfather passed away 9-25-1957 (Akron, Ohio two months before I was born and grandmother died of cancer in her 40's. (I have date of death somewhere in my pile of papers). They are both buried at Holy Cross cemetery in Akron Ohio.

Are you part of the Hunter family or do you have any information you could share with me ?

Michael
