Sts Setts - Country of Intended Residence on ship to Singapore

Hi,

I'm hoping somebody can help me, I've found a relative who travelled to Singapore in 1923, in the passenger list it states that his intended country of permanent residence is Sts Setts, however I cannot find what this stands for, it doesn't seem to me to be a country however it could be a territory or something completely different. If anybody knows or thinks they might then I would love to fill in this part of his story!

Thank you!

Catherine

After even more inventive googling I think I've found the answer is 'Straits Settlements' which included Malacca, Dinding, Penang and Singapore. Thought I'd post it on here in case anyone else needs to know or in case somebody knows I'm wrong!!

:)

No you are not wrong - part of the British Empire. If you Google Straits Settlements you will find lots of links about the history - jump the Wiki ones they are often full of inaccuracies. Four Colonies put together for trade and defence.
