I am looking for more information on WILHELM SCHMOLDT, born 1824 in Germany, died 1899 in Nebraska. He originally settled in Wisconsin with his brothers after moving to the states. Wilhelm later moved west to Nebraska to avoid the Indians, but family legend has it the brothers stayed in Wisconsin. His wife's name was Louise and they had at least one child Ferdinand (m. Martha Lemke) who moved to Nebraska with them.

Thank you very much for sharing this. I didn't have a list of Ferdinand's siblings until now. I recognize many of these names from the family plots, but wasn't sure how to place them on the tree. Are you also researching the Schmoldt line also?

Amanda, no I'm not related or researching. Every once in a while I use my 1880 Index to help narrow other peoples searches.

Thank you so much for your help. Thanks your census information, I was able to job Grandpa's memory. He remember William was the father of a Schmoldt buried in the local cemetery and that August's descendents lived in Texas.

I have a Robert Schmoldt, married 1852 in Hamburg to Johanna Blohm, who emigrated to Ilinouis, Johannas brother Johann Wilhelm Blohm *Drochtersen 18/01/1820 (Germany) emigrated 1846 to the USA, landed in New orleans and making his way to Cass Co, IL, His sister with husband joined later. Also they had August, Dorette, Lotte and Trinchen as siblings, who stayed in germany.
As well I have seen August later in your lines, maybe they are conected.
The area the "Schmoldt come from is probably a small village called "Osten" where I have a line going back to ab 1550. This is in "North" of Germany nearby rivers....
Maybe that you know now more and we can find conections

There are 2 Schmoldt entries in "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950): Hermann (suicide in 1893), Caroline (1916).

It's odd that someone would move westward into newly constructed (then deconstructed) Indian territories "to avoid the Indians" in Wisconsin.
