Does anyone know if Edith left England for Australia after 1911. Edith was born in Hastings 1887 her father being Edwin Henry Whiteman and mother Annie Wilkinson.
Edith was in Edenbridge in 1911 census but no trace since

Nope, she isn't listed on any passenger lists.

It's possible that she might have travelled as a crew member and so not been listed outward bound as a passenger.

Nor did she die in England under her maiden name.

I suspect that she got married, and there are four possible marriages.

Two of those are in the north of england and are likely to be two local women who were born in a similar time frame.

I suspect that she either married in Lambeth or in Surrey in 1915.

Doubtless you know that she was a dressmaker in 1911, so that, and her age and her father's details on the marriage cert should prove or disprove the marriage scenario.

She was born in 1886.

Civil registration event: Marriage
Edith Whiteman married Rupert E Sutton
Name: WHITEMAN, Edith
Registration district:
Lambeth
County:London
Year of registration:1915
Quarter of registration:Apr-May-Jun

Page no: 921

The 1911 census lists a single bank clark called Rupert Edward Sutton born 1886 in Oundle Northamptonshire and living as a lodger in 37 Semilong Road, Northampton in 1911 but I can't find a birth record for him.

The 1901 census says that his father was a 53 year old retired school master called Francis William Sutton who was born in Beccles, Suffolk in 1858.

53 seems a bit young to have been retired back then.

The family were living in North Street, Oundle, Northamptonshire in 1901.

On the 1891 census the father is a school teacher and the family appears to be living on the school premises, which appears to be a boarding school, Lanston School House, North Street, Oundle, Northamptonshire.

So potentially 2 lower middle class spouses, and similar ages, that sounds feasible.

Ah yes, thought so, found his birth registration, the registration office made a typo error and listed his name as RuBert Edward Sutton.

He didn't die in WW1 nor in England, there are 3 possible death registrations for Edith Sutton, but if they remained with each other, they may well have gone abroad.

Can't see them on any passenger lists though.

Can't see a birth or death for him either.

Ah, knew it. !

Another typo error, this time though the registration office got it correct, the error was an error in the transcription of the marriage registration record.

Wyndham E. Frost should have read Wyndham M Frost.

His name was Wyndham Morgan Frost and he was born in Cheltenham Gloucestershire in 1876, his father's name was William C. Frost.

There is another transcription error for Wyndham in the 1881 census, ( in Solihull ), in which his name does indeed also appear, (probably due to an error or to illegible handwriting ), as Wyndham E. Frost but his census birth details make it obvious that he was Wyndham Morgan Frost, and also, there was never a birth for Wyndham E. Frost.

There was only one birth for Wyndham M. Frost.

Wyndham M. Frost died aged 44 in Fulham London in 1921.

In the 1901 census he is in Hammersmith London with his family at 192 Hammersmith Road, and he is a house furnisher and his father is an accountant, so, another middle class family.

In 1911 he is a travelling salesman ( brushes ) and is living alone at 25 Sterndale Road Kensington in the Hammersmith sub district of the Fulham registration district, and is listed as the head of household.

Civil registration event: Death

If you haven't already got Edith's exact date of birth, you will need it to compare with her age on any possible marriage and death certs for her.

Civil registration event: Birth
Name:WHITEMAN, Edith
Registration district:Hastings
County:Sussex
Year of registration:1887

Mother's maiden name: Not available before 1911 on birth registration birth ledger entries, but it will be listed on the birth cert.
