Does anyone know of any accidents that happened in the mines of Pike County, Kentucky back in the 1940's or '50s? My great grandfather was involved in one of them. Would like info.

I remember several. One was an explosion at Pond Creek Colliery involving 4 men & I believe one was killed. I also remember a scaffold falling at Turkey Creek (also Pond Creek Colliery) and several were killled. My father "Lefty" Hamilton was Supt. Are you any kin to Taylor Hatfield?

My grandfather was in one in about 1949. He died from complications of the injury he suffered in 1951. He lived in Ivel, KY which I believe is in Pike County (can't find my atlas to check.) I've never been able to find out any information about the accident though (I just know he broke his back.) His name was Harl Osborne.
