I am looking for descendants of James Barkhouse b. Aug 9, 1865 d. 1950 in Nova Scotia, Canada.

James had a brother Joshua P. Barkhouse (m.Fannie Pinch in Dec.5, 1896). They were the sons of Philip Barkhouse and Jane ?Veinatte.

James married Lizzie (Elizabeth L. Garvey) b. about 1871 in New Brunswick, Canada, d. 1942. They were married in 1888 in Nova Scotia. They lived in Five Islands, Colchester county, NS.
They had the following children:
1.William Barkhouse b. 1890
2.Harry Barkhouse b. 1893
3.Gordon Barkhouse b. 1895
4. Eddie Barkhouse b.1900
5. Carl Barkhouse b.1908

I am not positive, but I think Philip Barkhouse, b.1826 d.1875 at age 49, was the son of Jacob (b 1793 d.1868 age 75) and Sarah Barkhouse of Salmon River, Nova Scotia.
Jacob Barkhouse could be the son of Philip and Margaret Barkhouse of Gold River NS.

Hey, I was just poking about and discovered your query. I am Gordon Barkhouse's grandson. I've been trying to piece things together about his parents, lazily, for a couple of years. Your information is helpful. If you have any other info about either James or Lizzie I'd love to hear it. Any questions for me are welcome. Thanks! Jeff

Hello Jeffrey,
There is a good reference on the Barkhouse family history published about 2003 by Ronald T. Barkhouse and Vernon S. Keddy, called "100 Day Voyage to Freedom: descendants of Nikolaus and Gertruda" (396p.). It was published by the New Ross Historical Society and is sold by the Ross Farm Museum, New Ross, N. S. (google their website for details, but I think that it is about $30 + $10 postage to USA). It includes what I presume to be your line through Walter E., Gordon Thomas, James Enos, Philip. Johnn MICHAEL, Johann PHILIPP, to Johann NIKOLAUS BERGHAUS, the immigrant ancestor.

Cheers, Wayne N.

Hello anonymous,
There is quite a bit of information on the descendants of James Enos and Lizzie (Garvey) Barkhouse in the book mentioned below, although it is sketchy on the most recent generations.
James' father was not the son Philip, who lived 1826-1875, of (Johann) Jacob (my gggrandfather) but the son Philip, who lived 1833-1908, of Johnn Michael and Anna Maria Barbara (Wentzell) Barkhouse. Jacob and Michael were brothers, born 1795 and 1799 respectively, and were sons of Philip and Margaret of Gold River. Be careful, though, as there was another Philip and Margaret Barkhouse near there at almost the same time. That Philip lived 1818-1895, while the ancestral one, originally Johann Philipp Berghaus, lived 1764-1800. His wife Margaret was originally Anna Margaretha Maria Knickle, who was born 1771. She remarried after her husband's death, in 1802, to Valentine Eisenhauer.
