Hourihane Y-DNA and A-DNA projects

I just submitted a request to FTDNA for a Hourihane DNA project.

The project would be focused geographically on Co Cork and Munster, Ireland, and on names such as Hourihane, Hourican, Horrigan, Horgan, Horan, and the Americanized Irish Howard. Men with these surnames are invited to take a Y-DNA test, and anybody with these names anywhere in their direct ancestry can take the A-DNA (Family Finder) test.

Once the project is OK'd there will be more details on the project page.

This project has now launched!

People named Hourihan(e) are cordially invited to join the O'Hourihane DNA projects. This will be my only announcement on this board.

Hourihane has historically been associated with Cork in Ireland, however there are possibilities that some could have actually been O'Brien, or that they could have been Horan, Horgan, Horrigan, or Hanrahan.

The project home is at:

I am looking for people of Irish descent named some variation of Horan, Horgan, Horrigan, Hanrahan, Hourihan, and even Howard to join the project. Due to a number of factors, there is a possibility that these surnames have historically been confused with each other.

The project is looking for Y-DNA test participants and also autosomal DNA test participants. The project contains a background; goals; a surname distribution map and other items of interest.
