Joseph Fletcher Poland and Sara Jane Rote

Sara Jane Rote was my gggrandmother. She married J.F. Poland December 15, 1859, in Illinois. Her father was William Rote(b.1803) m. Margaret Anderson(1804). Wm. and Margaret several children. Elizabeth Rote married a Benjamin Henry. Margaret Ann m. Elias Romey. Elisa m. Joseph HartJames m. Mrs. Eiliza Hawn. George m. Catherine Rishell
James was serving with the 11th Illinois Calvary, Company L under Col. Robert G. Ingersol when he was killed near Jackson, Tn. On 25th Dec. 1862. One day short of his birthday.
J.F. and Sara Jane moved with his son Charles Willis to Iowa and then on to Lyons, Kansas. Both are buried in Graceland Cemetary. Sara died in 1914 and J.F. in 1919.
I don't know if any of this information fits in with anyone elses but if it does, I will be glad to give you what little else that I have. judi

Sure hope you're still doing research on your family and are still using ancestry.com

I too descend from William & Margaret (ANDERSON) ROTE/ROAT.

I descend from their oldest son, George ROTE who married Catherine RISHEL. I have quite a bit of info on the ROTE family and will gladly share.

I visited the Graceland Cemetery in Lyons, KS a couple of years ago and took several pictures of gravestones. Will gladly share those, too, if you don't already have them.

P.S. Just visited the Heston Cemetery near Havana, IL this Fall and also took several pictures. That's the cemetery where William and Margaret ROTE are buried.
