Looking for anyone with information on Burton C. NICHOLS born about 1816 possibly in Piffard, NY. His wife was Charlotte [last name unknown]. Some children were:
Ellen, Marshall, George and Charles. He lived most of his life in York, NY as a corn merchant and produce dealer. I'm especially interested in who his parents were and his wife's last name.
Thanks.

I see Burton C Nichols in the 1850 and 1870 census living in the Town of York, New York and it shows he was born in Vermont. I will keep looking for more information as I get time. Please feel free to use one of our message boards at www.yorkhistorical.org.

Thanks so much. The only information I've got on this family is from census records only. So anything other than that would be greatly appreciated!

Dorothy,
Thanks so much for all the information. I'm sorry it took so long to get back to you! As it turns out, I believe Burton to be in a collateral line to what I was pursuing, but thanks for the info anyway. I'm sure it will be useful.
Regards to you,
Deb

What else does your book say about the Nathaniel Nichols family? He had a daughter Mary Ann Nichols and a son Rolla Alonzo Nichols that I'm interested in. Thank you for some information!

I have a Jane Eunice NICHOLS who married John Baker LEE on 2 Sep 1837. Jane died in June 1839 after giving birth to a daughter, Jennie Eunice LEE. John's first wife was Elizabeth MIX who died in 1834 after giving birth to a son, who also died two months later. Cynthia Elizabeth LEE, her two-year old daughter, was raised by her maternal parents, Abiather and Lydia MIX. Jane Eunice NICHOLS was the second wife of John Baker LEE to die young, possibly during childbirth. He married a third time to Mary Jane PRENTICE. John and Jane Eunice had a dauther named Jennie Eunice LEE, b 27 Feb 1839 who died 10 Nov 1872. They lived in the Orleans County area of NY State. Jennie LEE married Charles FLINT, and later married Henry DRAKE. John Baker LEE and his third wife had four children, two of whom died young. Hope this is helpful to someone.

I am researching families named Bow or Bowe.
From my information on the York, Livingston county, NY Bow family, I believe that the William Bow b. 1793 in CT who married Phoebe Nichols is the son of Jacob Bowe b. 1765 and Zerviah Brainard who were born in Middletown, CT.
Anna Blanch Bow looks like she is the daughter of Lysander Bowe, named Blanche Bow in the 1880 census at age 12.

This is how I have arranged the family. It is somewhat circumstantial, so I hope that someone in the family can confirm or dispute parts of it.

2013: I am now of the opinion that Jacob Bow and Zerviah Brainard are not the parents of the whole group in my last post. There is an Abraham Bow Sr. dying in 1908 in Pittsfield Mass who married Elizabeth Arnold in Middletown CT October 18, 1785 and Abraham Bow Jr. who was in Pittsfield MA and then lived in York, NY by 1820.
In a book about the York, NY Rosman Lawrence Family, the author discusses the York siblings from Middletown: William Bow/Phebe Nickols, Rosannah Bowe/Roswell Stocking, Hannah Bowe/Loomis Walker, and Sarah Bowe/Silas Lawrence with no mention of Pittsfield, Mass, Abraham Bow or Charles Bow.
She relates the family legend of a relation to the Benedict Arnold family, and guesses at the parents as Samuel Bow and Mary Arnold who were the right age in Middletown to raise the York family. Problem with that is, Abraham Bowe and Elizabeth Arnold were too, and they were in Pittsfield. Samuel and Mary are not known to have lived outside of Middletown.

Charles Bow b. 1790 Pittsfield Mass then living in York in 1820 seems more of a mystery since the others in this family were born in Middletown later than he was born in Mass. And Abraham Bow Jr. Born in Vermont while the others were in CT is troubling. So if this arrangement and the associated data is correct, the family was travelling back and forth between Middletown, CT, Mass and Vermont (Probably Pittsfield VT, which is where Jacob Bowe's brother Daniel went from Middletown. or there is another unknown Bowe or two in Pittsfield Mass.
An interesting observation here is that Abigail Stocking Holloway died in Adrian, Hillsdale County, MI, which is the same county that Charles Bow's son Horace settled in.

My new proposed arrangement:
Descendants of Abraham Bow (s/o Stephen and Mary Butler Bow,Alexander and Lydia King Bow, Samuel and Mary Turner Bow, Alexander and Sarah Bowe.)
1 Abraham Bow b: Abt. August 02, 1767 in Middletown, Middlesex County, Connecticut d: 1808 in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts
