Looking for the parents of Nancy Reynolds/Runnels. She married William Lawson in the early 1800s. Probably from Stokes County, NC, but marriage may have been in VA.

I am curious to learn more -- we may have a connection. My ancestor, Hamilton Reynolds, b. 1761 in Anson Co., NC, moved with his family to Wilkes Co., GA during (?) the Rev. War. As soon as he got of age, Hamilton joined the GA Militia. About 1791, Hamilton married Rachel Clements, the daughter of John Clements, Sr. of SC (owned land in Wilkes Co.). Eventually they moved to the Lawrence and Giles Co. area of TN and show up in the 1820 censuses there. Living near them or their adult children are Isaac, Sr. and Jr., William and Joseph -- all of ages which could make them Hamilton's brothers.

I suspect that this Reynolds family came out of the Stokes/Surrey/Caswell Co. area of NC, as there are several associated names there in the 1790 census, including a Hugh McReynolds (Hamilton named his first son Hugh Riah).

Let's see if we can help each other out.

Our family was in Caswell county NC during the Rev War -
Maj. Dudley Runnels/Reynolds was with the militia from
Caswell county and we are still trying to find all the
family. He died in Wilkes county Ga in the late 1700's
and part of the family still uses Runnels - one was the
Gov of Ms and is buried in Houston, Tx and his son was
Gov of Tx in 1858-60. His son Levi came west about 1837
when his son Wm Dudley Reynolds married in Henry county
Ga and they spent several years in the area of Union county
Ark and after the war with Mexico ended, Wm D settled east
of Austin, Tx and died in 1887 and is buried in Burnet, Tx.
A partial record of the military campaign in NC is on the
USGenWeb archive site for Caswell county under the pension
application for a soldier named Pass.

Nancy's father was possibly Johnston Reynolds from VA. If he is her father, then two of her siblings are Johnston and Mary E.

closely related as well as to Dudley Reynolds - Connee

I am seeking info on Fergus Harvey Reynolds. He was named in the Will of James Grice. In this will his last name is spelled "Runnels."

Have not been able to gather much information about Fergus and nothing on his ancestors. Research indicates that he enlisted in the Civil War (confederate ) March 15, 1862, and was ranked private in the Infantry, Regiment 28, Company C, in Catawba, NC.

There are several REYNOLDS in Lincoln Co. N.C. 1790 Census

There are 3 Jn. Reynolds;

Reynolds, Thomas

Reynolds, Rd.

Reynolds, Rd. Jr.

Reynolds, Sarah

Reynolds, Wm.

Reynolds, Wm.

Reynolds, Perry

If anyone has come across Fergus while searching wills etc. of anyone the above please contact me at hillsters@bwoodtx.com.

Thanks...
