My mother worked at Winte's Restaurant in downtown Mt. Vernon, IL in the 40's - 50's. She will be celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary next year and I am trying to gather as much info on her pre-married life as I can.

Does anyone know where this restaurant was located? What it is called now if it hasn't been torn down? Know anyone who worked there back then?

Her name at the time was Karma Smith.

The Wente's son ran a small grocery near the high school.
You could get a hot dog, chips, and a coke for a quarter.
Gary Wente and I attended Franklin Elem. School. I can
remember going to the restaurant and getting to eat fresh
ground coconut. Don't know why I remember that.
We lived on Casey St. near the high school. The restaurant
had to have been opoerated by the Wente's until the mid
50's.We moved to Louisville, Ky in Oct., 1958. Gary's mother was a war bride from England. remember his grandparents in England sent him a bike with"skinny tires"
We had never seen anything like that.
