Herman E Hollenbeck,b 30 June 1884,d 1977; married Letha P Hopkins 16 july 1907,d in Colorado (do not have the date in front of me) a son of Andrew b 1843 & Sarah E Cowles Hollenbeck,
Herman Hollenbeck was my husband's (Lennis Owen Hollenbeck's) grandpa. Herman had a twin, Herbert? or Hubert?, and I believe 8 other siblings, and 11 children of his own, including my dear deceased father in law, Lennis O Hollenbeck. I don't have much time to devote to research with working full time and life, but love to surf the internet for bits of information as time allows. I am wondering how you are related to this line? Thanks, casper4566@aol.com. PS: The story goes there were three Hollenbeck Brothers that came to NY, one got separated from the other two.....

I recently learned that my 4th great-grandmother was Allany "Fanny" Hollenbeck married to James Woodcock and, so far, both are from New York. Their daughter Helen Elizabeth Woodcock was born in Binghamton in 1844. Helen's daughter Alice Ione Crook used the nick-name "Allany" all her life, so I wonder if Allany Hollenbeck was actually Alice Hollenbeck. I don't have any more to go on. Any connection to your Hollenbeck research? Do you have any suggestions? I am checking with Binghamton, NY records but their birth records didn't start until 1884.

Sorry, I don't recognize these names, nor do my Hollenbecks have a tie to the Southern Tier of New York.

Do you know you the birth date of Allany? Then you might be able to search baptism records.

No, I don't have a birthdate for Allany. I am still persuing this though. How do I access baptismal records? Can I do that on-line? Also, do you know if there are birth/marriage records for New York available from about 1850?

Very rare to find official town records before 1890.

Folks have transcribed some baptism records and posted online such as the Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston.
Some you can find by searching books.google.com and some can be found in Ancestry.com records.

But since you are looking for her family so you don't know her parents yet, and aren't sure of her given first name, the baptism records won't help much w/o a good idea of her birth date.

Do you where this family was after Helen's birth or did they stay in Broome county?

Teresa

According to the Pedrick Necrologies at the Ripon, Wisconsin library, Helen moved to she came to the vicinity of Green Lake, Wisconsin at the close of the Civil War. It doesn't say what her mother Alany did. Helen was married in Wisconsin and I have requested a copy of the marriage record through the Wisconsin Historical Society. It should be here any day now and those records included full maiden names of mothers of bride/groom.

Since you posted this in 2004, I'm not sure if you are still on this site. I know of the Hollenbecks as my great grandmother was Katherine Hollenbeck and married Daniel Spraker Briggs. I am trying to trace back further thru Phillip Hollenbeck but have run into a roadblock with his wife, Magdalena, having no history of her parents, etc. I am trying to get all the way back to a Katherine Selmser who made a blanket with her name woven in it. I will check over your list that you posted and see if I can find any additional information.
I hope that you are still on this site.

Hollenbeck and Selmser

I have a Catherine Hollenbeck b. 1852 d. aft 1919, who married a Briggs. She had a daughter Almira and son David H.
Was your Daniel Spraker Briggs her husband?
Catherine's parents I have as Philip Hollenbeck and Magdalene b. 1817.

I also have some Selmsers that are from same area.
I have a David Selmser b. 1781 who married 17 Jun 1806 Catherine Lingenfelter (b. 1783). I don't have their children. But Catherine Lingenfelter Selmser did have a sister Magdalena. So it is feasible that she could have had a daughter Magdalene Selmser b. 1817.
The sister Magdalena Lingenfelter (b. 1776) married Michael Stoller and their daughter, Catherine b. 1795 married Michael Hollenbeck. So these family groups are all tied together.
