Bernard Gallon and Hannah Moreland were listed on their
daughter's birth certificate as having both been born in
Illinois of parents from Ireland. Their daughter, my great-
great-grandmother, was Anna Rose Galen. The spelling
differed on the certificate of the birth in Dec, 1869.

Surnames: Gallon, Galen, Moreland
Dear Elaine: Bernard Gallon was born in Illinois of Irish
parents. He married Hannah Moreland also born in Illinois
of Irish parents. They were parents of my grandmother,
Anna Rose Galen who was born in Pittsburg, Pa in 1869..so
I am assuming the Gallon-Moreland ancestors came to Illinois
around the time of the Potato Famine i.e, 1847-50. I have
recently learned that Bernard Gallon later had a son named
Bernard Galen born 12 Sep 1877 in Philadelphia, PA by a
different (2nd) wife Cecelia. From many hours of research
I have found that not only is Gallon/Galen a rare name from
Ireland, but Bernard with Gallon is even more rare. If you
are able to find your father, and his father, and if they
should be connected, please let me know. Philadelphia is not that far from NY and Bernard the son could have settled there.
However, I have found a few other Gallens you might want to
investigate: Joseph Gallen 18 Oct 1918; Samuel Joseph Gallen 28 Aug 1959, Sean Joseph Gallen 3 Jun 1987 Phil, PA died next day. Best wishes, and hope to hear from you.

I believe that I've contacted, before. Bernard GALLEN is noted in Census, Cementeries, and other jurisdiction records in Philly areas and surrounding counties. But, I think you may have to boarden you research with that first name; for the names may come from the German States; as there was a State/Province named: Gallen, in the 18th & 19th
centuries.
