Surnames: Mac or Mcpherson, Aitken
My father James Duncan Macpherson was born on the family farm on the Black River just below the Black Bridge and above the Harry White Farm. I am looking for information about his ancestors and the Land Grant awarded after the war of 1812. Samual Macpherson married Mary Aitkin and I have the history from then to now , but I need the history before that time. Marilyn MacPherson

Marilyn McPherson;
In regards to your above query on Samuel MacPherson & Mary Aitken have you checked out Gravestones of Glengarry Volume 2, 1978 by Alex W. Fraser or the area newspapers Glengarry News or Cornwall Freeholder for marriage/death notices.
Good Luck on your search.

I am looking for any information on my great grandmother's family. Her name was Catherine Dermid McPherson. There is also an indication that it was spelled McPhearson. Her parents were Hugh and Catherine(Young/Jong)McPherson. They farmed in the Willamstown district. My grandmother had four sisters; Beccie, Ethel Sarah and Lillian and two brothers; Ewen and Alec. My great grandmother was born in 1871. Any information someone might have on this line would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck from here.

Would be interested to know whether one Margaret MacPherson b.1807 and whom married one James MacKenzie in 1832 and whom settled on the north side of the Ottawa river would happen to be included in your researches.

I noticed your reference to Flora who married John Dickson (11). I am looking for any information regarding Mary Catherine Dickson (and family) who was born in Dunvegan, Glengarry Co. in 1884. Her father was John Dickson and I think that her mother was Flora but haven't been able to verify. John Dickson moved to Winnipeg with his family but I don't believe that Flora was with them as she doesn't appear in any of the census information. Also, I have found a marriage notice that has Norman McDonald as father to a Flora who married John Dickson in Dunvegan. If this is the same family, then I do have some information regarding the descendants of Mary Catherine Dickson (who was my grandmother).

Hi Marilyn,

I saw a later post by 'Tal" who wrote:

There is a Colin MacPherson son of Murdoch on Lot 20, Kenyon 3rd in March 1840,

This is "my" Colin McPherson and I'm trying to determine "which" Murdoch McPherson he belongs to! Do you know how to check the land grants from the Rev War?

Thanks,
Mike
