Does anyone know where the Bookwalter clan is from? Northern Germany? Was it an Americanized German surname. When did the first Bookwalter arrive in U.S.? My family traces itself back only to around Carey, Arlington, and Williamstown, Ohio.

After I married into the Bookwalter family the legend was told that Bookwalter was Americanized from Buchwald. Buchwald was supposed to be one of those occupational names: Keeper of the Beechwood trees... they supposedly grew/harvested trees used in the dikes to hold back the sea.

Thank you, Sally, for taking the time to answer my inquiry. Our legend has it that there were originally 6 Bookwalter brothers who came over from Germany together. My brother found one branch out near Vancouver, Washington at the Bookwalter wineries. They have great "Bookwalter" t-shirts with grape leaves. Best wishes, Keith

I'm just writing to say hi to any relatives reading this. My immediate family and I are from Attleboro, Ma. I know my father was born(I believe) in Lewistown,Pa. and his parents were from there. I have a large Bookwalter side of the family in Lewistown,Pa and surrounding areas. We have a family reunion every August in Lewistown but it keeps getting smaller every year. I wish we could all just get together and see each other, I think it would be wild to see the entire family. Oh well, if anyone cares to write me and ask any questions feel free my email address is donald.bookwalter@tfn.com bye. Don

Hi,
I have come across the name Isaac Bookwalter in my reasearch of the King family. My mom mentions visiting Uncle Ike in PA in her diary. I don't know what the relationship is between the families. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Surnames: Bookwalter, Moss, Eurit, Snavely
My grandfather was a Bookwalter, and the surname was originally Bochwalter and they did decend from Germany. My grandfather was Floyd Bookwalter 1902 - 1997, (had a brother Ross Bookwalter)and his parents were Harvey and Minnie Bookwalter, all from Cass County, IN. Harvey had 1 brother, Warren, and 2 sisters, Blanch and Lilly.
The only elder Bookwalter surviving that knows anything about the Bookwalter Clan our of this area, from the Twelve Mile, IN aka Cass County, is my Grandmother Ida Snavely Bookwalter.
