I am looking for information on Gustove Burkholtz (he may have gone by Michael Burkholtz). He was born Sept. 1837 in Germany & died Oct. 11, 1918. He married Caroline Palmer.
Children include: Gustave & Theodore. Any additional information would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Have you ever found out any info? Michael Burkholtz was my gg grandfather. LDS records show him married to Caroline Palmer, my family records show Caroline Jeskey. I have some info one him. They are buried at Circle Hill in Punxsutawney. I have some family stories on Gust that my Mothers told me. There are very few relatives left who remember Michael and Caroline but I do have an Aunt who does. None of my family seems to think he was ever called Gustove.

I can't tell you how excited I was to get your reply. This side of the family has been so difficult to obtain information on. Michael was my gg-grandfather also. I have his daughter-in-law Mae buried at Circle Hill, but have his wife Caroline buried at Greenwood. I still have family living in the Punxy area. My great-aunt is the one who told me he was called Gustove (he was her grandfather), but the newpaper clipping from the Punxsutawney Historical Society just seems to list him as the deceased husband of Mrs. Caroline Burkholtz. I'm descended from their son Gustave. I haven't been able to go back any farther than Michael / Gustove. Any information you can provide on this family would be greatly appreciated. I'm afraid I don't have too much yet, but anything I can answer for you, just let me know. Thank you so very much. - Wendy

THIS IS SO COOL!!
You're right on the cemetery. All my family's there and I guess I just always called it Circle Hill. It is also Greenwood, ones the old part of the cemetery and ones the newer......they just came together.
I have hit such a wall on the Michael thing....I'm waiting for an email from Germany from a guy looking for Burkholtz and Jeskey descendents. I spend a lot of time on German sites, trying to decipher. About all I can tell you is he was from Carzitz ( I can not find this town but I have found towns close to the sound or spelling) They came here in 1884 in steerage, on the Suevia. My Great Grandmother, Frederika, was 6. She used to say how sick they were the whole trip. I have the picture of the Lords Supper they carried with them. The LDS site has her as Caroline Palmer but my side of the family has her as Caroline Jeskey. One of my great Aunts used to work for her cousins, Julias Jeskey in Punxsy. I have been trying to find some Jeskeys in the area but I think Julias went to Ohio.
I am going to try to go back this summer and visit the cemetery.
You bet I'll share anything I find or hear. I refuse to give up on this.
Keep in touch!

That would be wonderful, please do keep me posted. Here is the little that I have: Gustove or Michael Burkholtz b: 1837 d: Oct. 11, 1918 at the age of 81 years m: Caroline Palmer who was b: 1838 in Germany d: 3/30/1922 in her Daughter's home b: Greenwood Cemetery They married in 1870 in Germany. I only have 2 children listed: Gustave (b: 2/22/1881) & Theodore.

You listed 2 towns. Was he born in the first? & Berlin for the birth of the children. I noticed I didn't have your great-grandmother as one of the children but am assumming that is where she fits in. Any info. you wish to share would be oh so greatly appreciated.

It's just so weird to be chatting with a 3rd cousin I've never met. :-) Thanks so much for everything. - Wendy

Thats pretty much what I have. Michael and Caroline both died at my Great Grandmothers home. She was Frederika Emma Caroline Burkholtz Anderson, b. 5/16/1880 in Germany and died 10/1/1969 in Hedrick Nursing Home in Punxsy. I still remember so much of her and visiting there after she left the house. She was 6 years old when they immigrated. She married Carl Theodore Anderson in 1898. He died on 10/31/1942...got pneumonia while digging a cellar. I sent James Birkholtz the info I had to post on his site. Give me an email and I'll send pics of the home and my Great Grandmother.Tell ya the funny stories if I can remember them about "Uncle Gust". I'm getahrse@yahoo.com.
Isn't this and the internet amazing?

Almost forgot....the towns. My family says Cartzits Germany but I can't find it......only a "soundex" form of it. I don't think its written down......just spelled from memory. I do know my Grandmother always said they came from Berlin and theres a town in the area called Kiritz.
I am going to write a letter to guy (Chambers is his name and I know that name from my family somewhere!) that did the LDS info and ask questions on where he got Caroline Palmer.

also, there was an Amelia or Mildred Burkholtz b. 1/30/1875 in Germany, d. 8/29/1949 in Pittsburg. She married Charles Kuhme in 1891. I found the pic of the house Michael and Caroline built and lived in. After they passed away, my Grandparents, Anna Helene Dilts and Paul Dwite Dilts bought it. Its where they lived until they died. I then lived there for awile.
