My Courseys are from Vermont. My grandfather was Frank Edward Coursey who was born in March 1881. His father was John Coursey. They lived in Burlington,Vt. Great Grandfather died and my great grandmother married a Myers. But they never had any children . My Grandfather's two brothers were Eugene Antione Coursey who lived in Baltimore , Maryland, his wife was Julia but they never had any children. Uncle Louis Coursey lived in Massachusetts and did have children. I know he had several girls, That is about all I know except there was some connection to Canada. I was surprised to see that some Courseys are connected to Ireland when all this time I thought we were french. Because I was told by Grampa that the name used to be DeCoursy , not sure of the spelling. There are some Courseys buried in the Catholic cemetary in Burlington, Vt. By the way Great Gramma Coursey Myers once owned that land is the international airport in South Burlington,Vt.
As for the Courseys in Vergennes, I remember when I lived in Vermont and in high school I used to write to some Courseys from Middlebury, that is near Vergennes. The name if I remember correctly was Leo Coursey. We could not make a connection as to how we were related. I have not been able to find a great deal about Courseys further back than my great grandfather in Burlington. I would appreciate more information too.

My mother was a Coursey and she was told that around 1830's or so they imigrated here from England. City is unknown. Also, known as DeCoursey across the ocean (spelling of name not sure) and an unknown legacy left in England. Can anyone shed some light on this matter?

Those Courseys got around. I think if we were able to go back in a time machine to the 1700 and 1800's would see that there were alot of conflicts in Europe, and many people fled , for example France, to get away from harsh rulers, there were also the crusades and depending on whether the ruling power was Prostestant or Catholic the opposite religion had to conform, or be persecuted or killed , and sometimes sent out of their homeland. If we could only find the origin of Courseys we might find this was true of them.
