I,m trying to trace any relatives of ours.My grandfather William John Darch was born in Barnstaple, Devon in 1873.He married a Lotta or Lottie Hawkings, who was born in 1869 in Holsworthy. I don,t think that this was her maiden name because as far as we know it was her second marriage. She had 5 children by her first husband and five by her second. They owned a farm in the Devon area.

Hi There! My maiden name is Darch. I am from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. My father's name was Kenneth Darch, born in Grand Valley, Ontario. Are there any Darch's out there who believe they may be related to me? We must all be related in some way as it is such an uncommon name. I'd like to hear from anyone. Thanks!!!

Hi Sue, My great grandfather's aunt Mabel Ann Fletcher, born 1857 in Bowmanville Ontario, married a David Darch. They had at least 3 children that included Albert, Leonard and George. I once found a lot of Darch-Ontario info on the search engine GOOGLE. GOOD LUCK

Hi All,
Just something to keep your mind busy...My family is Darche or sometimes D'Arche and was prolific in the Chambly, Quebec area, from the early 1700's. Possibly someone dropped the "e" in a cenus recording or other birth/death recording. I have heard this theory before from others who have Darch relatives but have never persued it. However, I also have seen the Darch name referred to from Slavic countries, as if it was shortened. Just a thought...If you would like info on the Darche family, please email be directly. Regards...Dave

My maternal relatives are Darch's of Bowmanville also. Do you know if the David Darch who married your Mabel Ann Flechter had brothers named James and John. I am trying to connect the Bowmanville Darchs and have confirmed that James and John were GG uncles. Please email me direct at lastunicorns@shaw.ca. Maybe we can share info. I have been on a Bowmanville web site and found a lot of Darch's
Thanks

Hello I thought I would drop you a line as there are not many Darchs here in Merseyside. I know my grandfather came from Cardiff in Wales but I am yet to do my family tree. I would love any information on my name Darch!

I have two possible candidates for you:
William Darch, born West Buckland about 1873, son of John and Emma William Darch, born Barnstaple about 1875, son of John and Ann

However, I don't think either are your grandfather, I think this is his family in the 1901 Census, living in Portland in Dorset:
John Darch, head, 28, Watchmaker, own account, Berrymarten
Lotta Darch, wife, 29, Milliner, Holworthy
John Darch, son, 4, Comarten
Charles Darch, son, 3, Addleston, Surrey
Baden Darch, son, 1, Portland
Mabel Darch, daughter, 6, Barnstaple
Ida Hawkings, niece, single, 21, Nurse (Domestic), worker, Holworthy

Berrymarten doesn't exist to my knowledge, but Combe Martin and Berrynarbor are right next door to each other in North Devon, near to Barnstaple. I have a lot of information about Darch people, but I have not been able to place this John into any other family yet.

There is another record that I have not firmly identified yet: A birth certificate for William John Darch in the third quarter (Jul-Sep) of 1873 in the Barnstaple registration district, reference 5b 465. I haven't purchased a copy (costs 6 or 7 pounds). It will show the names of both parents with some other useful information.

With that reference, you could apply for a birth certificate by post to the Family Records Centre in London (search for the Public Records Office on the web and then look for their centre in Middleton Road, London - probably Islington).

hi Dick,

i've only just found your reply, and yes, this is the Darchs I've been after, it gets confusing, as there are so many of them, and the William John Darch that I have almost 100% certain is mine was listed as born at Berrynarbour.
thnak you, maybe now I can narrow it down a bit
