Hi Cindy

Thanks for the reply!!!

Unfortunetely i am unable to give you much information on my Richard Garley im really stuck at the moment on my garley family, but see if any of this sounds familiar to you, it really isnt much. My grandad, Frank, was born around 1921 and his father was Richard Garley. I dont know when or where Richard was born only that Richard worked and lived on the grounds of Newstead Abbey as a groundsman in Nottinghamshire with his wife and family. Richard was also married twice. Ive just spoken to my mum and she says that the name Florrie rings a bell for one of the wifes name, but she did say that she would try and confirm it with my father.

Hope something rings a bell. Id be interested to know about your richard garley Cindy. Look forward to hearing from you

Sue, My Great Grandfather's brother, Richard Garley was born in Little Harrowden, Northampton, England about 1856. The way they carry the names down, Frank could be a grandchild of my Richard. I looked though the 1891 Newstead, Nottinghamshire census on Ancestry.com but did not find any Garleys at that time. It was probably later that they were there. Do you know where Frank was born? What part of England?
Does the name Tom Westray Garley or Edith Garley ring a bell. I have a little information on Tom. It says that Richard and Edith were his parents and he was killed in the service Dec. 22, 1917 age 21.
Also, Ihave George Edward Garley, sone of George and Betsy Garley of Hinxworth;husband of edith Garley that died in the service at the age of 36 on May 3, 1917. These names were taken from Commonwealth War Graves Commission List. I haven't been able to tie these together yet.

Sue, I don't know any relatives in England. I live in Delhi, LA.
My mother wrote to some of her cousins on her grandmother's side of the family, Perkins in England but not to any Garleys. Mother passed away in 1980. There is alot she may could have told me.
The closest I have on the Garley information is the 1881 British Census and Little Harrowden Church records. I found my Great Great Grandfather's first family in 1861and 1871 Little Harrowden, England Census. He also remarried and was on the 1881 British Census. His name was Samuel and his first wife was Lydia who died in 1872. His second wife Sarah died in 1885. I haven't found any information as to when he died. He was in Little Harrowden still in the 1880's.
These are his children as far as I have come up with.
William, Ann Garley Wright, Frederick, Richard, Thomas, Ellen, Charles, Elizabeth, Jabez and Amy from his first marriage, James Samuel Fisher Garley, George Thomas Garley by his second marriage so far. There may be more. I have not found them in the 1891 British Census of Little Harrowden. There was also a daughter Maria that was not on the census because she was born and died between the cenus. She was on the church records and died at the age of 3. She was by his first wife.

Maybe some of these names may ring a bell.

We have a Caroline Garley age 12 in the 1841 Census of Brixworth, Northamptonshire, England . Her parents are listed as William and Elizabeth Garley. It had that she had a brother William, age 10 - a sister Rebecca, age 8 and another sister Elizabeth, age 6.

Could this be the same Caroline?
