Surnames: Garrecht and Hess
Looking for family members of Daniel Garrecht and Carolina
T. Hess from the Offenbach region of Germany. They were
married in San Francisco, CA - September 25, 1864. Had
4 children, one died at birth. I have located a family Bible
and would like to reunite it with some family member if
possible. Anyone with any information, please contact me.

I haven't been able to trace my ancestry past (John) Philip Garrecht who lived in Easton, Pennsylvania, and Phillipsburg, New Jersey, USA. I found him in the 1850 as Philip Garrecht age 69. He lists himself as a shoemaker by trade. His wife's name is Catharine. John Philip's son, Adam, is also listed with wife, Barbara, and children Edward, John, and Adam. They list their country of origin as Germany, and in another Census they say Bavaria.
My question is about the Garrecht surname in Germany. Is Offenbach an area where the Garrecht name is most popular? Or would you think the Garrecht's lived mainly in another city or town?

The name Garrecht is very common in Offenbach. Offenbach is a village ,which belongs now to Rheinland- Pfalz in Germany. But in an older time Bayern and the Pfalz belong together. So it could be that your ancestrian came from Offenbach.

Hi Paula,
I am researching my ggrandmother, Josephine Garrecht. She was born in Offenbach, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany and died in Boise, Idaho. She married Charles Mann in Idaho City, Idaho. I think her father was Georg Jakob Garrecht born 1689. I think she had two sisters Emma and Margarete, maybe Appolonia. Think father of Georg Jakob was Jo'Es(Johannes) Michaelis Garrecht 1670, and his father Jo'es (Johannes) Georgii Garrecht born abt 1640. Do any of these names sound like your line?
