Any information on D.D. HOLDRIDGE would be appreciated. He served in the Civil War, regiment and state unknown. On March 8, 1865 he was made the Commissary of Subsistance, I have a document signed by President Abraham Lincoln to that affect. Thanks. G. Mercer

Dear Kathy Lundberg I am also researching the Holdridge family tree. I know that My Grandfathers family come over from Ireland and that one of the children was born on the boat and they named the boy Freeland they opened a baby buggy company in Albans NY at least that is what I was told. Freeland ran away from home and so my grandfather was never able to trace his family line. If any one has any information on that particular line of the holdridge family please e-mail me. theodore51@hotmail.com thanking all of you in advance I am Catherine Holdridge King

I am interested in Holdridge of Herkimer County. I have an Abigail, m. Elijah Smith, resided in Smithville and McDonough, Chenango County, New York. I am trying to determine who Abigail's parents are. Abigail was born in Herkimer County, 18 Sep 1800. She is on the list of heirs/next of kin of one Richard Holdridge who died 1832 in McDonough in the transfer of property to Peter Holdridge:
Book TT page 335 of Deeds
This indenture made the 23rd of February, 1832 between Gershom Holdredge and Joanna his wife; Ethiel Holdredge and Phebe his wife; Ida (Ira?) Holdredge and Anna his wife; William Baxter and Anna his wife; Leander Webb and Mary his wife; Daniel Holdredge and Eleanor his wife; Jesse Madison and Damaris his wife; Elijah Smith and Abigail his wife of the first part and Peter Holdredge of Smithville in Chenango County of the second part.'
Witnesseth whereas Richard Holdredge deceased late of Smithville aforesaid at the time of his death was seized of an undivided half of a piece or tract of land in a deed dated Dec 23, 1822 executed by Joseph Gile and wife to said Richard Holdredge and Ira Holdredge and recorded in Book DD of deeds page 322 and in the Clerk's office of Chenango County and where as the said Richard Holdredge deceased at the time of his death was seized of an undivided half of the land described in a deed dated July 24, 1810 executed by John Holdredge by John Greig his attorney to said Richard Holdredge and recorded in Chenango County Record Book DD of Deeds page 323 and the parties of the first part are heirs at law of the said Richard Holdredge deceased. Now this indenture witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of $ 200 to them in hand paid by the said Peter Holdredge the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do hereby grant bargain sell and quit claim unto the said Peter Holdredge and his heirs all the land above described as owned by the said Richard Holdredge deceased at the time of his death. To have and to hold the same with all the hereditaments and appurtenances there unto belonging to the said Peter Holdredge and his heirs and their own proper use and behoof forever. In witness whereof the parties of the first part hereto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.
Witnesses: Peter Payne & Hull Russell
Signed:
Ethiel Holdredge (LS)
Phebe Holdredge (LS)
Leander Webb (LS)
Mary Webb (LS)
William Baxter (LS)
Annah Baxter (LS)
Daniel Holdredge (LS)
Eleanor (Her X Mark) Holdredge
Jesse Matteson (LS)
Damaris Matteson (LS)
Elijah Smith (LS)
Abigail Smith (LS)
Recorded June 25, 1833 at 10 am

Per History of Chenango County, New York, Damaris Matteson was the daughter of Richard Holdridge. Abigail & Elijah Smith named one of their daughters, Damaris Smith.

Per History of Chenango County, Richard Holdridge settled 1810 in Smithville. He is the only Holdridge found in the 1810 census of Smithville.

Was Abigail a Holdridge?

Hi;
I saw your info on the list of your Holdridge family.
I am a descendent of Erastus Holdridge. Would Charles be his father? And was Erastus found to be in a town in Oswego Co., Albinion, NY? Or do you have that information.
Does a Mary Jane Holdridge show up in your line? She was mar'd to Mortimer McNitt.
Be very glad to hear from you, thanks so much for any help given. Maxine in Missouri @ email dimond385@aol.com
