Anyone know why Romanus Kanfield and his sister Henrietta has his named spelled as such, while the rest of his siblings, John Otto, Lucilla and Emilian have it spelled Kanfeld?

Hello... From what my father has limitedly explained to me, there was a family fued way way back when my father was a boy (he's 73 now), and the 2 brothers decided to split and one went as far as to change the spelling of his last name. I was in my 20's and was attending my grandfather John's funeral when his brother, whom I never even knew existed walked in... Spitting image of my PawPaw. My father talked to him for a few mins and he left. I didn't get introduced and that's when I recieved a 1 line explaination of who he was and what happened. I didn't push it any farther than that. This is all I know and I'm not 100% sure if it's true or what caused the division in the first place. John Kanfeld. grandson

Thanks for that. I have some names in this lineage and didn't know how the name split occured, whether it was a clerical error or another family altogether. My father asked me if I could find out, and I appreciate your response. May I ask what is your father's name? ...as Kanfeld is not as common as Kanfield.

My email, if you don't want to say publicly, is dboudr@hotmail.com. If you send me your email, I can send names and info of what I have from my mother.
