I can't make a connection but have Scharnhorst ancestors who emigrated from Hanover to St. Louis through New Orleans. I don't know how long they were in St. Louis but two dau. and poss. the parents moved up to Keokuk Co., Iowa. Are your Sharnhorst ancestors MO Synod Luth.? Just wondering because of the Concordia, MO references.

I have a feeling we may have a connection here. The Blinde family also came through St.Louis, MO. to Concordia, MO. they belonged to the MO. Lutheran church in Concordia, MO. where I found these records so far. If you want to email me direct it is ldrooster@alltel.net I am very interested in what you have and where to search. because I do not know what happened to them after the second child was baptized except I know they still lived in Concordia, MO in Nov. 12,1897 as there was the article in our home paper stating a visit to August Blinde at Johnson, NE. from Concordia, Mo. by Marion and Pauline Scharnhorst. not sure who Marion is unless it was sister Mary or a husband of Pauline. If I knew the source in Iowa to check maybe I could find the connection. and we also are related to the Schnackenberg family of MO. who married into my Hahn family. they were also of Concordia, MO. too many connections here.

Actually, my MO Synod ancestry is through another line but I recog. all the Concordias as I am a grad of Concordia St. Paul. I do know that my Snakenberg and Scharnhorst ancestors were Lutheran when they came to America but were converted to Methodism in Iowa during the camp meeting and circuit riding days. I didn't know there were Snakenbergs in MO but Keokuk County is pretty far south and so it doesn't surprise me. I do recog. the name Hahn. My great uncle, Bruce Snakenberg would talk about people named Hahn. I'll get back to you this weekend when I have more time!

I have a Peter F. Scharnhorst and a Mary A., from Connecticut. He was in the union navy during the civil war. Do these names sound familiar?

Your post is about 3 and half years old, but hoping you are still connected. Louis Scharnhorst, b. 1845 in Hanover is a grand uncle. His father and mother are listed in the census along with his family. Have not been able to get beyond them. Please contact me at DLuetjen@aol.com.

I am still searching for Minerva Jane Scharnhorst born about 1837 (1860 Johnson Co Mo census); married Henry Mertel in Howard Co Mo March 23, 1852. Find them buying real estate in Johnson County in 1857. Family records spell the name in several variations and her name on the marriage license is spelled differently. I have searched 1850 Howard and Lafayette County census to no avail.
Any clues?
