My branch of the Schwenk family came to Pennsylvania from Germany in the early 1700's. It's my understanding that three brothers settled in what became Schwenksville, PA. Looking for anyone from this lineage with more information from the 18th and 19th century Schwenks.

Thanks to some very helpful folks, I've traced my lineage back to arrival in America.
However, I've found two different dates for my ancestor's arrival and I'm hoping someone out there can validate one or the other.
1. Hans Michael Schwenk arrived with his
wife Mary Elizabeth and son, George,
on Jamaica Galley, RObert Harrison, in
Philadelphia on 9 Feb 1739.

2. Hans Michael Schwenk arrived with his
wife Maria and sons, George, Nicholas
and Jacob on ship "Lydia", James Allen,
master, at Philadelphia on 20 Sept
1741.

I can confirm that the first set of information that you listed is correct (1739). This information appears in the history of Montgomery County chapter on the Schwenk family. My father has done some searching for our line and will be giving me more details to post to you soon.

Theresa,
You probably have discovered the book "The Schwenk Family" compiled by Enos Schwenk in 1916 revised and enlarged by Ralph Beaver Strassburger 1929, The Norristown Press. This is a wonderful source of the family history and a copy exists in many of the local historical societies in Mont. Co. I have a copy of this book as well as "The History of the Strassburger Family and Allied Families of Pennsylvania. Please contact me at debbie_perlow@merck.com if you need any info from these books. Please let me know if you come across references to a Matthias Schwenk 2/11/1789 to 6/02/1870. We have traced back to him but can't find his father.

Hi, Janet, I was so thrilled to find your info on elizabetha Schwenk and Valentine Ettleman. My gr.gr.gr, gr granfather was Valentine Ettleman who married a Swank per the Five Family Record written by my mothers mother's cousin in Boone, Iowa in about 1925. Then later someone said her name was elizbeth so I decided it was Elizabeth Swank (the Americanized version of Schwenk). My Grandmother's cousin was charles Forney. This book is about the Forney family who intermarried with the Benner, Study and Clappper families and Ettleman families in PA and Ohio. So I am so happy to find where Valentine Ettleman came from and where Elizabeth Swank came from and when they came to America.
