I am researching SEIFs from Sanktandres in Temes County, Hungary. Mary SEIF was my great-great grandmother. She married Peter RAUSCH around 1880. Her parents were Peter SEIF and Theresia WEBER.

I know very little about my fathers family.
He(Theodore Seif is the son of Peter Seif and Susanna Juhas Seif). He was born in Philly 1915 died 1968. Its my understanding that Peter Seif was born in Europe

Hello! This is Charie, one of your cousin Ben Long's daughters. I've been trying to contact you for the past month, but had no luck since this board was down for a while and the e-mail address listed for you came back as unrecognized. Please contact me at kittycat_tango@hotmail.com, as I'm starting to research my family and would love to work with you on this.

Just checking back on old queries. Here are some updates:

- family members from Temesvar/Temeswar or Sankt Andreas (Szt Andras and other spellings) were SZEIF. They became SEIF in USA.

- Most SZEIF from Temes county immigrated to Philadelphia but a couple went to Mt. Vernon NY, St. Louis MO, and Baltimore MD.

- I have not found when Peter SZEIF came to the US but Gyorgy SZEIF in 1911 listed his brother Peter SZEIF at 1037 N. 3rd Street in Philadelphia. From www.ellisislandrecords.org

Read your family Szeif/Seif article. My name is Bob Seif and my Grandfather was Mathias Szeif (Seif) from the Banat area of Romania which is south of Temeswar area. He married a lady from the same area named Elizabeth Franzwa (sp.?. His port of entry was Locust Point in the Baltimore, MD area. He was a barber by profession. By chance do you have any further information on this family. Our thanks. Bob

Hi Bob,

Lucky you! There is a family book for St. Andreas, where both the Szeif and the Franzwa families settled in the Banat. I know someone who can do a look-up for you. You probably will be able to trace the Szeif line all the way back to Johann Seif born in Landstuhl, Rh.

I have both Szeifs and Franzwas in my family tree, but they moved from St. Andreas to nearby Mercydorf. Please contact me directly about this.
