My mother is Joan Marie Siemonsma of Hartford SD. Her father was Elmer Siemonsma, and his father was Ring R Siemonsma who was married to Minnie Kerkvliet. Is there anyone who knows any more about the Siemonsma family of South Dakota and the netherlands??

Hello Stacey.

Met Steve Tenessen in 2000. He has given us the book made by Leona T. Siemonsma-Hill. I found out that she had almost more information about the Siemonsma/Siemensma family than we have. This year Harry and his wife, his brother Mike and daughter Jane visited us. They come from California.
I'm looking for a possible link between our family and Ruurd Symen Symensma.

Hello Peter,
I was not aware of a book by Leona Siemonsma. I have one that was made for Florences 80th (I think) birthday. I have found more information on the internet than is in the book, with the exception of the living relatives. Steve Tenessen is my cousin. He is my Aunt MaryAnn's son. How did you two meet?

Thanks,
Stacey

Hello Stacey.

Steve send me an email that he and his wife Yorinya had plans to visit Holland and Friesland, the northern part of Holland where all the Siemonsma come from. We met in Bolsward, the town we are living and we showed them around. Just today we celibrated that Bolsward has for 550 years the right to name itself a city. That was important because than the city could deal with other citys, had his own courthouse etc.

Peter,
Is this book the one about Florence Honrath (Siemonsma)? I have that one, but I didn't know of another one. Did you and Steve know eachother before he and his wife came to visit or did you guys meet through genealogy stuff?

I was also wondering if you have any family pictures of our ancestors that you would be willing to share or send me so I could make copies. I am trying to make a scrap book for my sisters and parents.

Hoi Peter!

Is this the Ruurd Symens Symensma of Balk Mennonite fame? While not related, I have many cousins (extended family) who married this Symensma family.

We have a Ring R. Simonsma born November 11, 1868 in Tyumaarum, Netherlands. Died Apr 01, 1946 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was married to Minnie Kerkvliet. Minnie was sister to Mary Marie Kerkvliet - my grandmother. Their mother was Cornelia Van Egmond and their father was Gerald Kerkvliet or Garrett Kerkvliet of Vogelenzang, Holland. I have an array of information that I am plowing through on the Kerkvliet, VanAnne (VanHannen), etc. (We have a family reunion every three years and just enjoyed one at Ocean Shores, Washington in July 2008.)

Is your mother Joan Marie born Nov 17, 1956? Was she one of 15 children?

I am related to the van Egmonds (Cornelia married Gerrit Kerkvliet - their daughter Dina was my great-grandmother)
Any info you have on the van Egmonds would be appreciated!
Thanks!!

Yes, my mother is the one you are speaking of. Born 11/17/1956. She was one of 15 children, to Florence and Elmer Siemsonsma. I would love to have any information that you find from the Kerkvliet family!
