My grandfather,John Alexander Swetnam, came from England. His father's name was William.
My grandfather, John Alexander Swetnam, was married to Amy Louise Prouse. They moved to Canada, from England and then settled in New England.
I am wondering if I am related to any persons on this message board! Please respond.
Thank-you

I was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada in 1974. My fathers name is James Swetnam. He lives in New Brunswick as well. I know that he has one brohther that lives somewhere in canada as well. This name is not very popular. It is nice to see that there are other Swetnam's around the globe as well. I have since married and changed my name. But I would like to see if there is any one else out there that I may be related to.

My grandfather(John Alexander)had a brother, William, that lived in Canada. My grandfather also lived in Springhill ,Nova Scotia . He had three sons, Hubert Alexander, Theodore Prouse, and Gerald W. Swetnam.
Would anyone have any have any of these same relatives?

Hi Karen,

My Great-Grandmother's maiden name was Swetnam and she had a brother named James (Jim). He died a few years ago in Bermuda. Is this the same James?

Karen, Who were your dad's parent? I am researching the Swetnam line from N.B., and wonder if he is related to this branch. Jackie

I too have just started trying to find swetnam's in NB. my great grandmother Elizabeth Houston Swetnam was born in St. Gregorie, Quebec, she was one of seven children father Robert Swetnam and mother Isabel Walker Houston. they had seven children Lucy Hale (born 1852 in Montreal, Quebec) Richard Walker(born in Black river, NB) Mary Isabell (born River du Loup, Quebec) Robert (born Waterville, Nova Scotia) Margaret (born in Wentworth, Nova Scotia) They came to Harcourt, New Brunswick (Robert and Isabel) on a train from Wentworth, Nova Scotia. I am told Robert and Isabel originated from Yorkshire, England. I believe they were married in england, but not sure, and no mention of any children before immigrating. Hope we can exchange info if this rings any bells for you. my email is aganter@telusplanet.net

James Swetnam was my great uncle. He was a brother to my grandfather Graham. When Jim swetnam died he was Approx 96 and living in Bermuda. He has a daughter ( Avis) that still lives there, she is married to a Howard Greet. Jim had one son (Boyd) that was killed in an accident along with his wife Approx 1974. James Swetnam wife was Nelly. Her maiden name was McClure. James also had two sister Maude and Bell. This might be of some help.

Further research of church records has shown that Robert Swetnam married Isabella Walker (not Isabella Walker Houston). She was baptized in Ravensworth, England on Feb. 15, 1829 the daughter of Richard Walker and Isabella Allen. Robert Swetnam and Isabella Walker were married in 1851.
Do you have proof of the Houston connection to the Swetnam line?

Hi Karen
I am one of very few Swetnams in Australia. My family settled in Victoria Australia. My Grandfather James was a gold prospector for a mining company called Rialto.
I have had limited success tracking our ancestry outside Australia and was wondering if any of your predecessors were adventurous enough to head down under to Australia.
Would be glad of any ifo you may have regarding this
Regards
Bob Swetnam
PS There are not many of us down here either but there seem to be thousands of Swetnams in the US
